Do you consider yourself a "Southerner"

yes...the only issue is the stereotypes put on the word southerner so ppl don't wanna think of themselves as that...you say southerner and it gets equated to confederate flags, missing teeth, slow talking, and dumb...but when I'm in the inner city of the 305 I never feel outta place because the culture so familiar to me.

I was born in Michigan.

If kid rock can consider himself a southerner, I reckon I can, too.
Haha. I think it might depend upon how many car dealerships your daddy owned back in Michigan and if you'd ever consider living in Nashville as a minimum prerequisite for the Southern bonafides.

Kid used to spend days pondering this on the tennis court and in the horse stables of his childhood estate in Romeo.

30 pack of Strohs...30 pack of hoes!!!

Born and reared in Warner Robins, GA.
Been in South Florida (Boynton) for 18 years and still to this day when I speak 2 words out of my mouth people ask me
"Where you from, cuz it ain't Florida?"
I'm as Southern as you can get, but I been bleeding the orange and green for about 45 years.
Warner Robins, eh?

Mama Fromm can get it!

When I was at UM in the mid 60s, the UM band always played "Dixie" during games in the OB and all the Frat boys sang heartily along. A few Confederate flags were even waved, believe it or not! Sorta ironic in that 90% of the people doing the waving and singing were from NY. A clear case of non-Southerners, for some reason, trying to act like they were at Ole Miss.

As someone from Massachusetts who has spent a decent amount of time in SFLA tri county area and SEC country I wouldn’t consider SFLA southerners by any measure.

I've been to your part of the world about 7-8 times during the course of my life. I can honestly say that visiting Massachusetts is like going to a different country, which adds a sense of adventure to the trip.

I know The U has fans everywhere, but Florida is still home base at the end of the day.

Obviously being "Southern" means different things to different people, but just wanted to know what Canes Fam thinks

Me -- born and raised (all over) North Florida? Yes. 100 percent.

(This topic came up for discussion on a sports talk show up here in Atlanta wrt to best fits for SEC expansion)

Yes I'm a southerner but I ain't country....there is a difference. Talk to folk from the NE or from the west coast they will let you know if you are from the south!!

Good points here.

Really…that’s interesting. Is it because of the architecture and weather? Or the people and food are so different. I have to say, I wish we had more Cuban food up here.

All of the above. It's because everything is different. The weather is obvious from the second you get there. The age of so many buildings, and other things. The visual appearance. The people are obviously the biggest factor, from the way they sound, to opinions and mannerisms. People talk about different hobbies, priorities, schools. There are times where I could listen to a conversation, understand each word, and have no clue what anyone is actually talking about.

From southwest louisiana. I’ve been to the panhandle plenty and it feels “southern” but that bc most the tourists there are just Texas, la, and Mississippi ppl who frequent those places. I’ve yet to hit Miami, but will do so hopefully within the next few years.

Amigo-
I’ve met plenty of folk in rural Louisiana that thought that anyone that’s north of I-10 is “Northern.” 😅
