Do you consider yourself a "Southerner"

Oh… the Heartland Area of Florida (Polk, Hardee, Highlands, DeSoto, Okeechobee, Glades and Hendry Counties) is south of Orlando and definitely are southern in every aspect.

Yeah, it seems like there are "pockets" of the South in the state well beyond what is considered North Florida (haven't been to a lot of those places, just kind of going of what I've read or heard)

True? @JeddTheFisch

True. I def include Polk as Southern and all those interior counties.

Born in Ft. Lauderdale. Parents are relocated NYC residents. **** no.

Don't know if it's considered the Muck or not, but we drove through Moore Haven don't know how many years ago.

That was about as country as any place in North Florida! 💯
I think the Muck is considered Pahokee and Belle Glade.

Just about every town off US 27 between I-75 and I-4 are country.

When I was a kid from Miami, I went to Apopka and worked on a farm. It was truly country back then. Now, there are businesses at the location that farm was. Things have changed in so many places.

As the years have passed and Florida's population has skyrocketed with move-ins from elsewhere, it may be more the case of "the further inland you get, the more Southern things are."

Will defer to @JeddTheFisch as he's the expert on all things FL

It certainly seems that way in North Florida
I used to golf with a guy who trailered for the winter in Central Florida and north of Orlando. He lived permanently in massachusetts. He told the story of what's going to a steakhouse in land in the middle of Florida and asking for two Beefeater martinis. After 15 minutes and no drinks, he asked the waitress what was going on. She said we're looking for the Beefeater gin. Another 10 minutes past and again they asked the waitress what was going on. She replied well we found the Gin but now we're trying to find out the person who has the key to the cabinet

I've lived in the "South" the majority of my life, but don't consider myself to be southern or a southern. It may apply to me by physical geographic location, but I'm not part of the "culture".

Ohhh boy let me tell you… if somebody from the Muck heard you say that Moore Haven is apart of the Muck. They’d cuss you out so bad. They’re so sensitive about it. 😂

****… Clewiston is 20 mins up the road and everybody I know from the Muck don’t consider it a part of the Muck.

Moorehaven is in Glades County.
Clewiston is in Hendry County.
The Muck is Belle Glade, Pahokee and South Bay… all in Palm Beach County.

Thank you for the explanation sir.

I don't know **** about anywhere south of Daytona or Ocala tbh

Amigo-
I’ve met plenty of folk in rural Louisiana that thought that anyone that’s north of I-10 is “Northern.” 😅
That is an accurate statement when it comes to “culture”. My buddy got arrested in east Baton Rouge and I went bail him out and it was like I was in a foreign land lol.

All of the above. It's because everything is different. The weather is obvious from the second you get there. The age of so many buildings, and other things. The visual appearance. The people are obviously the biggest factor, from the way they sound, to opinions and mannerisms. People talk about different hobbies, priorities, schools. There are times where I could listen to a conversation, understand each word, and have no clue what anyone is actually talking about.
That last sentence really hits home haha my girlfriend is from Wisconsin and has said similar things
