Sorry but if you’re from South Florida you’re not a southerner.
This is probably the best answer. This is basically what a former coworker from the Panhandle always used to say.South Floridians. What else do they have to be?
I think it is it's own thing. I would argue that even within areas that are clearly Southern (ex: New Orleans) or Midwestern (ex: Chicago) that the people living there aren't Southerners or Midwesterners b/c those terms are just as much about how a person acts as they are about their geographic location. Here's the thing: if it's very clearly not anything else, then what is it? My Mom was born in Spain, lived in Cuba as a small child, and grew up in Kendall/Cutler Ridge from age 5. My Dad came to West Palm Beach from Argentina in '76. I grew up in WPB. I've lived/worked/schooled in Palm Beach, Broward, and Dade. Clearly, I have absolutely nothing to do with the West, Midwest, Northeast, etc.
So, I figure I must be a Southerner by default.
THIS X1000No, though I’ve lived in the south most of my life.
It might also be a function of time. Palm Beach and even Broward and parts of Miami aren't as small town Florida as they once were.Sorry but if you’re from South Florida you’re not a southerner.
Laughing my *** off. Literally, out loud.I think it is it's own thing. I would argue that even within areas that are clearly Southern (ex: New Orleans) or Midwestern (ex: Chicago) that the people living there aren't Southerners or Midwesterners b/c those terms are just as much about how a person acts as they are about their geographic location.
The distinct lack of horizontal striped polos is enough for me to say that most of South Florida is not Southern![]()
I was born in Michigan.
If kid rock can consider himself a southerner, I reckon I can, too.
I'm as Southern as you can get, but I been bleeding the orange and green for about 45 years.
