I don't believe you are saying Jimmy, Butch, Erickson, Coker were were proven head coaches. I really didn't think it was even debatable. We hired guys that turned out to be elite. I am 100% confident that our next coach will not have a proven head coaching resume. Then again I WAS 100% sure Golden was the right guy. So there's that.

When did you say proven HEAD coaches? Those guys were all proven coaches, with the exception of Coker.
That's what I was saying. Proven Head coaches. I agree we have/can hire proven coordinators. Hence the suggestion of Jeremy Pruitt.

But two of the three were proven head coaches. The other came from the NFL. We hired proven coaches. None of those guys was an experiment.

Agree to disagree. I don't view Jimmy and Erickson as proven head coaches. Howard probably was as close to proven of the bunch. Like I said though I meant proven head coaches.

I don't want Butch

Were you even past Elementary school Petey when Butch was building the []_[] back ?

Since you never personally witness Butch in your cognitive years, what do you know of what others or inside the admin speculate vs. Butch? Since Shalala is leaving, does that effect matters?

I personally witnessed the Butch era.

Great evaluator of talent...and not a bad teacher, at least when it comes to the defensive side of the ball. With that being said, some of you don't remember how conservative he was and how much criticism he took as a gameday coach. Sound familiar?

I'm not ruling out the fact that he has learned from some of his mistakes and possibly improved, but I'll continue saying he wouldn't be my first choice. If we're going to go the somewhat conservative, defensive-minded, tough guy route I'd take Schiano before I take Butch.

Lu does a good job of holding his temper...it's our job as the casual fans to make noise and sharpen the pitchforks.

He has, however, given MANY subtle shots over the last 2 years. If you read his posts closely it's easy to see he's not a fan of the staff.

Subtle? I've written more substantive (or, at least, attempted) critiques of what we see on the field than just about anyone on here. What else do I need to do? DannyBoyCane video rant? What happens on the field is what should matter. If it doesn't work in a way that means something, which is to say for meaningful games, we need to change it. People told me we'd adjust this year with improved talent. Then we saw a replica of the bowl in the first game of the season. Our next halfway decent opponent? A replica of the Duke game last year.

The data all points in one direction.

:fistbump:

I'd take him back in a heart beat. With one caveat. Hire an offensive mastermind for OC and leave him the **** alone. Get the defense back where it needs to be and we're good. Offense wins games, defense wins...??? Anyone care to answer that? Exactly. And Butch knew that.

By the way, 2000 was a championship team. **** the BCS.

What are we considering a "proven" head coach? Erickson had been a head coach for 7 years and Johnson for 5 years, and both were winners at the schools they were at.

He wouldn't be the worst candidate, but for the reasons I've already mentioned....I'm honestly hoping we explore other options first.

Many on this board have forgotten how much he leaves to be desired as a gameday coach.

Compared to most of us who have had it with these ********...you're subtle. It's in no way a shot...I wish I could show your restraint at times.

Then you're one dumb siht.

WTF do you, sonny, know about Butch other than a few things you heard or read?

Every problem we have here at the U can be fixed by Butch Davis.

Every single one. I know you grew up during a decade long dry spell while coached by a bunch of amateurs, but trust me.

It is really, really exciting when you're playing for National Championships, year after year getting the top three recruiting classes, and are always pre-season ranked in the top ten.

****, Pete!

LOL...don't get mad brother, but I really don't want Butch either. Better said...I'd REALLY want to explore every other avenue before we come back to that.

I think he learned gameday lessons. UNC owned and out coached us the whole time he was there.

If Golden refuses to fire his best buddy D'onofrio, then fire both.

That is simple as 123.

I can't agree with that line of thinking. You're basically saying he's improved cause he outwitted OUR coaches.

Our last 3 coaches, in order - Coker, Shannon, and Golden.

About the only thing that makes Butch, from a comparative standpoint, is a prettier fat girl. Give me something else tangible cause that doesn't prove a thing.

There is a lot of talent in our defense and the lack of schemes under 3-4 formation are hurting them real bad.

I would not be surprised if McNeese State beats us handily.

Yeah Lu is probably 100x more critical than we are he just doesn't use all the rage and profanity we do, which tends to drown out our points.

I think East Carolina's head coach Ruffin McNeil is the real deal. He put together a team from nothing. East Carolina hung up 70 on North Carolina and beat VT in Blacksburg the week before. Have you guys seen those athletes he has, especially on offense? No he's not proven, but he has something special brewing at that school. Watch how that guy lands a big time job after this season. If Al gets the axe, the AD should give this guy a look...

So did Golden. Next.
