DL RECRUITING

We are not close with the way DT recruiting has been. We are farther than you think bruh.
I cannot disagree with the statement more, posters, like you come on here and say the same BS about defensive tackles when we have signed more trench bullies than any other program in the country the last three years. You realize that every one of our defensive tackles on our roster is over 300 pounds and has a chance to be big time at their position. How are you saying we’re so far away when we legit have a top 10 defensive line currently right now?

Your entitled to your opinion but we going to find out this year for sure.

You were awfully quiet on this topic in 2024 when we hauled in the #1 DL class. Has it been where it needs to be? No. But save us the it hasn’t been prioritized enough as we’ve pushed with numerous elite players on the DL and just haven’t landed enough. Big Joe was a liability in recruiting and we are still chasing too much. Mario knows how important the DL is and it needs to improve

Trench bullies is an umbrella term that consists of all offensive and defensive linemen. The statement that we have signed more 5 star trench bullies in the last 3 years than any other program is true. However that is not what @Dwinstitles is referring to. He's referring to the fact that only 1 of those 5 stars plays DT(Justin Scott) and that the overall depth at DT isnt close to what we have at OL and DE. Our OL recruiting is great and our DE recruiting is fantastic. Our DT recruiting has been good but not to the level of OL and DE. @Dwinstitles is just saying that in order to compete with programs like Geogia, OSU etc that our DT recruiting needs to rise to the level of our OL and DE recruiting. He's right but the thing is that recruiting elite DTs is difficult because the competition for them is intense. We're on our way and we are making strides but we need to be patient and keep winning. Consistently winning 10 plus games plus competing for conference titles and playoff appearances is absolutely crucial in order to be able play at the big boy sandbox(being consistently serious players for the elite DTs and signing them). I love Kennedy and Bacon and think we have a good shot of finishing this cycle with at least 3 and maybe 4 excellent prospects at DT with Lamar Brown being a possibility. Go Canes!

Simple fix, pay them more. They don’t care about winning seasons and playoffs

Disagree, Scott, Blay, Moten, Jones and Simpson are all over 300 pounds and every single one of them if you have seen them play, has the ability to dominate at this level. Don’t come at me like you played this game, I did and I know what it needs to look like and those five defensive tackles I listed, is what it needs to look like.

What are you talking about? I never even mentioned Blay, Moten, Jones and Simpson. Don't come at you? Nobody came at you. You specifically mentioned the most 5 star trench bullies. That's what I was referring to. I'm not even sure what it is you disagree with. I love all those DTs you listed as they are excellent prospects and I expect them to play well but at this point most of them are unproven. Besides the conversation about DT is mostly about continuing to stock the position for the future.

My post was anything but argumentative so I don't get what wound you up so much. Maybe try the decaf?

Those top tier teams will not give up the power of DT depth in the middle. They won’t let it happen.
And since most of those other programs have been winning awhile the kids give them discounts, us not so much. We gotta both spend more and divide it even wiser to get ahead.

Bruh no one takes discounts no one. Money always wins. If you think someone taking a discount that’s crazy, just go look at the nba nfl mlb. When they are free agents they take the most money 95% of the time. And that number is probably higher, as they should take the most. It could be the last time the money is available cause of age injuries and busts.

I generally agree, but when you have major proof of concept like how OSU has with wr's I bet all the kids they get aren't just taking the biggest NIL deal.

bruh if you paid JJ 4M and OSU offering 2M he aint going to OSU trust. If you think someone is generational you over pay, give them **** you money so they cant say no. You will land them regardless of proof of concept, they believe in their ability they can do it in any uniform.

To be fair, OP was referring to DT recruiting. 3 of the 4 examples you gave are DEs. Our DE recruiting has been excellent! Our OL recruiting has been excellent. DT is the most difficult position to recruit successfully because there are relatively few players at that size with the requisite athleticism to be elite at the position. Consequently the competition for the best DT prospects is beyond intense. It's cutthroat. OP made two points. He said that our DT recruiting is not on the level of our OL and DE recruiting and he said that we would not win a national championship without elite DT play. He can be correct on both counts without it having to be some kind of referendum on Mario's DT recruiting.

The OP is correct on those two points. It doesn't take a genius to realize that. Having said that and after taking a good look at the situation I believe that overall we have made noticeable strides in our DT recruiting over the past 3 cycles. In the 2024 class we signed 5 star DT Justin Scott who is expected to play a huge role this year and maybe start and 4 star DT Artavious Jones who will have every opportunity to claim the #4 DT spot. During that cycle it was widely thought that 5 star DL Armando Blount would likely grow into a DT once he got a bit older and grew into his college age body. That is no longer the concensus as it seems as if Blount is taking a similar route physically to Tyler Baron where he would predominantly be a DE with the ability to play 3 tech in certain fronts. The 2025 cycle was considered to be a somewhat down year at the position yet we signed Mykah Newton and Donta Simpson who shocked coaches during his first spring with the team with his ability to make plays at such an early stage in his career. Currently in the 2026 cycle we have commitments from 3 star Tyson Bacon 6'3" 265 lbs who I love as a prospect and I believe will climb up the rankings during his senior year and 4 star Anthony Kennedy 6'3½" 335 lbs who in addition to being huge is also strong, quick and explosive with a great motor and nose for the ball.

While it can be frustrating to watch the Georgia's and the Texas 8-4's of the world constantly pick up the more elite DT prospects and believe me I understand because I get incredibly frustrated watching it happen, there is substantial progress being made. Programs like Georgia, Alabama, OSU and Clemson have been established winners for a long time and TAMU and Texas are both in the SEC while having insane amounts of money and resources. It sucks but we have to have patience. Ultimately what we need is to win. Keep racking up 10+ win seasons, compete for conference titles and playoff appearances and soon the younger kids will begin to associate Miami with winning and recruiting the most competitive positions like elite DTs, QBs and WRs will become easier.
We have been patient for 20 years. Another year or two will be worth it. @DMoney says on the podcast. DT is the toughest position for the Transfer Portal/Recruit so, I believe it is always a priority. But like I said it is hard to recruit a kid who knows nothing of Miami and winning. If we can get to the playoffs a few years in row. The kids will look at us differently. But let’s not over look all the great DE he has recruited the last few years.

They may not know Miami and winning but they know $. No recruits know of Texas A&M winning.
