DL RECRUITING

OL recruiting is elite, but DL specifically DT recruiting is not. Mario has not emphasized DT recruiting like he has OT. We did whatever it took to land the number one OT in 2025. We need to do the same for DT. We will not win a ship without elite DT play. I keep hearing that $$ is not the issue. If true, then make Brown an offer he cannot refuse.

Texas Tech paid over 5m for Ojo. They did what they had to do to get their elite guy and beat out the big boys in doing so. Everyone has a price. Let’s do same if we are serious about a ship. We are awfully close.
Heavy D? Nope. Heavy Flow.

This!!! Dudes ain’t got no patience and let this man build his team.

Dudes acting like we been staple in the big bowls and championships acting this way.

We literally have had 2 10 win seasons in 20 years (1 with Mario) 2 bowl wins in 18 years. Yet Matio has us in the top 10 recruiting classes and building a juggernaut year by year yet dudes find things to complain about.

Unbelievable!

Pretty sure he said DT, not throw out a majority of great DE names and act like the DL is all shored up. That said, I have to believe Mario has a plan there…or at least he better have a plan there.
Sorry Justin Scott is DT. He has recruited four star this cycle and last. We are not recruited in a bottle, we have to compete with other schools who in most cases have won more recently then us. This is the money ball era teams will need to figure out how to spend money. Portal/Retention/Recruiting all three need big money pools. Portal and Retention will take from Recruiting pool. Coaches will have different priorities based on needs they feel to win

Justin Scott and Blount were 5 Star potentials, not plug and play or even rotational DT bullies that go for top price. Sure, they don’t grow on trees, but it does appear as if a certain cast of characters get them….and we don’t seem to be part of that club.

we dont know if Scott was a plug and play because Giudry was a ****** with his rotation and preferred playing lesser talented guys.

How many national championships have we won in the last 20 years??? How many college playoff games have we played in the last 10years? How many 1st round DT have we sent to the NFL in last 10 years??

100% Kids he is recruiting grew up with Miami as a crappy school with Dad telling them about the old Canes. Mario put the train back on the rails. We have left mediocrity and heading to being good team. But, we have to prove it this season beat ND at home, get to ACC Championship game, get to the playoffs and kids will look at Miami differently. Right now we are an old ESPN special Dad makes you watch about players you never saw play live.

This DT class will be **** good if they can flip a top DT. Thats all it needs. Kennedy and Bacon are both good commits. Their is no issue at DE. We need a whale WR, DT and a couple of top S's and this class will end up fine. If not, it's a bust. You can't close like last year. Going from looking like a Top 3 class with maybe 4 - 5*'s down to Maybe a Top 10 class with 1 - 5* in a month is going to bring out the worst in fans. You have everything you need to win 10 games, play in the ACC CH and make the playoffs. You better flip and close well with that. No excuses!

Thank you for making my point

Mario is an OL coach so he does better with recruiting OL cuz he has proof of concept at that position while DT we have two inexperienced guys on the trail competing vs the big dogs of the SEC and B10. Our last major DT drafted was Wilfork in 04 while Clemson, Bama, Georgia, Michigan are producing them at a high clip. That's the difference, I can guarantee Mario isn't ignoring DT or doesn't value the position.

Last year our strategy was to flip them later in the season. It flopped. This year it’s the same strategy. Let them commit elsewhere now and we flip them later in the season as we win games. There’s no guarantee that we will win games. Even if we win, there’s no guarantee that they will flip. Do what you need to do now to get them, and stop depending on last minute flips.

I agree with all of this. It also brings up a discussion that isn’t addressed enough which is questionable staff hires on that side of the ball. It’s alarming we are in this position with the resources we have. Our hiring process and DT recruitment needs to improve significantly.

Justin Scott 5 star, Hayden Lowe 5 star Blunt a 5star and Lightfoot 5 star. Dude you act like Mario is purposely neglecting DL. The cycle isn’t over sit back and let Mario cook long way till December
To be fair, OP was referring to DT recruiting. 3 of the 4 examples you gave are DEs. Our DE recruiting has been excellent! Our OL recruiting has been excellent. DT is the most difficult position to recruit successfully because there are relatively few players at that size with the requisite athleticism to be elite at the position. Consequently the competition for the best DT prospects is beyond intense. It's cutthroat. OP made two points. He said that our DT recruiting is not on the level of our OL and DE recruiting and he said that we would not win a national championship without elite DT play. He can be correct on both counts without it having to be some kind of referendum on Mario's DT recruiting.

The OP is correct on those two points. It doesn't take a genius to realize that. Having said that and after taking a good look at the situation I believe that overall we have made noticeable strides in our DT recruiting over the past 3 cycles. In the 2024 class we signed 5 star DT Justin Scott who is expected to play a huge role this year and maybe start and 4 star DT Artavious Jones who will have every opportunity to claim the #4 DT spot. During that cycle it was widely thought that 5 star DL Armando Blount would likely grow into a DT once he got a bit older and grew into his college age body. That is no longer the concensus as it seems as if Blount is taking a similar route physically to Tyler Baron where he would predominantly be a DE with the ability to play 3 tech in certain fronts. The 2025 cycle was considered to be a somewhat down year at the position yet we signed Mykah Newton and Donta Simpson who shocked coaches during his first spring with the team with his ability to make plays at such an early stage in his career. Currently in the 2026 cycle we have commitments from 3 star Tyson Bacon 6'3" 265 lbs who I love as a prospect and I believe will climb up the rankings during his senior year and 4 star Anthony Kennedy 6'3½" 335 lbs who in addition to being huge is also strong, quick and explosive with a great motor and nose for the ball.

While it can be frustrating to watch the Georgia's and the Texas 8-4's of the world constantly pick up the more elite DT prospects and believe me I understand because I get incredibly frustrated watching it happen, there is substantial progress being made. Programs like Georgia, Alabama, OSU and Clemson have been established winners for a long time and TAMU and Texas are both in the SEC while having insane amounts of money and resources. It sucks but we have to have patience. Ultimately what we need is to win. Keep racking up 10+ win seasons, compete for conference titles and playoff appearances and soon the younger kids will begin to associate Miami with winning and recruiting the most competitive positions like elite DTs, QBs and WRs will become easier.
