The number one reason non-athletes in the south transfer is because they didn’t get into the fraternity/sorority of their choice (I can’t cite it now and I’m not looking it up). Not saying that there was never a family member on their death bed, but sometimes “close and far” are not exactly distance related.

-City versus country
-Sun versus Snow
-East coast/West coast
-North and South
-same time zone/3 time zones away

All of his schools are PAC-12 schools. I have no problem with that at all (then again, I wouldn’t care if they were all ACC).

You're the kinda guy that wouldn't care if a kid lied about his little brother in San Diego dying of 3 different forms of cancer, got all the condolences and well-wishes from that crew of dupes in our fanbase......and then transferred to Virginia Tech.

And you’re the type of “guy” who would rather hold kids at Miami who don’t want to be there. Also, I’ve never believed that schools, conferences, or the NCAA should be able to restrict where a kid can go to school and I’m not starting now. No student-athlete should need a release to decide where he will continue his education.

I literally JUST said in THIS thread that I don't want anyone that doesn't want to be here to stay. I just don't need the lies on the way out as these kids try to save face or create false justifications.

It's people like you that derive some sort of self-worth in constantly sending meaningless thoughts & prayers and empty well-wishes that even creates an environment where a kid sees the benefit in lying. You're probably one of those clowns that sees no issue with the local kids that blatantly disrespect Miami on Signing Day. A "God bless all the young men no matter what they decide" type of dude.

Well, you can’t, because you’re just another insecure keyboard cowboy who gets butt hurt when the world doesn’t agree with him. Unlike you, my self-worth is not tied to signing day. LMFAO. and I don’t see it as “disrespect” because a kid chose a school other than Miami. Play anywhere they want, IDGAF. Especially for a kid who didn’t play much at all. Don’t really care about THEIR reasons, I move on. You can't be losing former five-star defensive linemen all willy nilly and not replace them with another. This isn't good news.

Wish we took care of business against the cupcakes on our schedule instead of letting everyone hang around. Even if he was making plays agianst JAGs it'd would have been a huge morale boost & fights through his personal adversity.

He wasn't a 5 star anywhere and him transferring shows his lack of maturity. Reminds me of Sentrel Henderson who was suspended constantly and went home at random times because he was homesick. Usually those types don't pan out.
 
I left Miami to go to college in California. Obviously I wasn't playing football. But family members view it differently than the student. I can emphasize that from experience. I felt immediately at home out there. And to me it made no difference where I was, because it was a plane flight back, as someone posted earlier in this thread.

But I got some pressure: "We only see you twice a year now." That type of thing. Constantly. To close family members the plane flight aspect doesn't matter. They want you within a one-day turnaround. They want to be within the same time zone instead of 3 hours away, where communication realities come into play. My mom didn't like the fact that she couldn't call me as soon as she woke up, because it was 3 hours earlier where I was.

I'm not saying that stuff was the tipping point. Who knows? But it caused issues within my family. I stuck it out. But I had several East Coast friends at USC who transferred and moved back close to home. My friends who did leave always did so within the first 3 semesters. I can't think of anyone who lasted longer than that and then departed.

**** happens at um all the time with non-athletes because, let's face it, it's a polarizing city. there's no indifference to this place. you either absolutely love it, or you can't stand it. every freshman class has a ton of kids that leave because visiting for a weekend and actually living here are way different things.

What you're describing in general happens at any school that draws its students nationally and internationally. Your description of the rationale (or lack) is pretty spot on as I even remember one dipsh!t my freshman year at UM that we had to convince to stay because he was going to run back to "Strong" Island because he missed his high school girlfriend sooooo much. He later found out she was banging half of Hofstra when he went home for winter break.

The only caveat that may be different with your perspective is that you originated in Miami. It's very "special" here with kids still living at home until they're 28 years old and the parents actually wanting that. In other parts of the country (at least in the past) there was a great deal of shame and angst if you had to move back home post high school and college breaks and most parents actually celebrated kids moving out.
 
sorry, but if you're a 20 year old man who need to leave college because you're "homesick?" .... then you are the world's biggest ******.

get a clue and a life.

my 14 year old kid is half way across the country at boarding school. if I told him that the reason DJ left UM to go back to California was because he was homesick, my kid would laugh his *** off.
 
Felt and said he was leaving when he took off for personal reasons. That crap doesn’t happen unless there’s a death.
