DJ Johnson

Out-of-state kid gets beaten out by a lower-rated South Florida kid and transfers. We've seen this story before. Kiy Hester was the last one.

This sucks because pass rushers are so valuable and DJ has talent. All eyes on Scott Patchan now.

Sorry man but that doesn't make me feel better. A while back you mentioned that our coaches needed to handle this a certain way (ala DJ williams). We didn't and he's gone. At some point all of this attrition is going to hurt us, the same way it did Richt while he was at UGA. You can't stack chips when guys are leaving left and right and then you compound that by basically under recruiting. We'll see how things pan out come February, but I swear I've seen this movie before.

It sucks. The only way to handle it is to recruit more good players. Thank God we already offered Chatfield.

As far as attrition, this is the only one that really hurts. Fines and Gordinier weren't going to play. Owens is a bit of a loss but we need to see what last year's LB recruits can do.

If he goes to Arizona or Washington I call BS. 12.5 hour drive from UofA to Sacramento & 12 hours from UW to Sacramento. Unless hes rich & will fly home every chance makes no sense.

I'd like to know the outcome if he had Garvin's snaps. Maybe he felt slighted by the local less recruited kid getting meaningful snaps while he rode the pine until he maybe got a few garbage times snaps. Im going to assume DJ never wasnt ever asked to play that roll.

Wish we took care of business against the cupcakes on our schedule instead of letting everyone hang around. Even if he was making plays agianst JAGs it'd would have been a huge morale boost & fights through his personal adversity.

His logical choice would be Sacramento State.

DJ is not leaving, trust me, he ain't going no where

So next season I can See Miami defitniely moving patchan back to dend which he should have been at
that would give us only
joe Jackson
Demetrius Jackson(coming off of injury)
Jon garvin
Scott patchan
Greg rousseau
Andrew Chatfield?

Dj Johnson definitely was talented but you can tell he was homesick because it was a clear opportunity for him to play next season

Patch has already been at DE - for a few weeks now, IIRC.

As for next year, one possibility is to move DJax to LDE. That balances depth a bit with Mr. Glass as his backup.

So, we're looking at...

Willis (if he makes it)
Bethel
Ford
Silvera (if he signs)
Tyraieouc Martin

... das it mane?

Not being a smart *** - who will play defensive tackle for us next year? In the spring? We gonna have to move someone?

You have to wonder why you guys aren't on someone's coaching staff somewhere. You all clearly know way more then the coaches at the University of Miami so you should definitely be able to get some mid major or FCS gig.

As far as DJ, it hurts a little for next year but I expect us to recruit some dogs on the DL in these next 2 classes so long term I think we will be fine. Say what you want about position but he clearly was behind Garvin on the totem pole. You all keep throwing around the 5 star rating but considering he'd yet to see any significant snaps while plenty of other Fr did makes me think he may have been slightly overrated. I did love his upside though. Oh well.

We will see if he actually transfers anywhere remotely close to his home/family.

But hey, we're fine at DL - Kul's got this!

I don't want anybody that doesn't want to be or is too soft to be here but a lot of you are better people (or way more gullible) than I to always be buying always ambiguous and always "severe" family illnesses as a justification for these transfers.

Funny how it's never "My momma has pancreatic cancer but her dying wish is that I continue to play so I'm gonna go ahead and transfer to State U that's 45 mins from house. Sorry!"

Numbers matter. Practice, scout team, injuries. It's about more than just who plays or is projected to play on Saturdays. Not to mention that UM is ground zero for guys that leave early. We're dealing with guys that are considering leaving early that shouldn't. We'll be dealing with the same nonsense next year. At some point it's going to be too much to overcome. Richt needs to get on top of this or we're going to waste what are some potentially extremely electric playmakers. Fast forward to 2019 with the likes of Lingard, Thomas, Dallas, Pope, Jordan, etc and we're going to have to outscore the **** out of people because our DL is going to be thin and/or young as ****.

Real talk, this **** is concerning. We are looking down the barrel of having a grand total of 7 scholarship D-linemen if McIntosh and Norton go pro

DE
D Jackson
Joe Jackson
Garvin
Rousseau

DT
Bethel
Ford
Martin

I'm not counting Silvera until he actually signs and I'm not counting Willis until he shows up day 1 in august. Even if we move Patchan back to end, that leaves us with 5 DE, 1 being a true freshman tweener and one being a guy that converted to TE. Our DT depth would barely fill out a 2 deep. **** has me shook. WTF is going on. I think this puts us at like 75 total scholarship players for 2018 as of today. We aren't finding 10 more players before NSD - ****'s like we are still on probation.

I said this another thread, but I'll say it again: The D Line concerns me at this point moreso than the O Line. We've got some big boys in '17 and '18 coming in who should help the O Line tremendously. The operative word being 'should'.

But the D Line -- While excellent talents, we need more than Silvera and Chatfield. And now losing DJ...

I don't want to hear **** about a 4th WR or another DB (unless it's Campbell or Surtain!). We need to load up on DT / DE, ASAP. Kul, you've got some work to do, big fella!

I support the staff but that doesn’t mean we can’t question them or question how they handles a kids recruitment or freshmen year. Just like I’ll question why they didn’t target Thomas or hearley until the 4th quarter of the OB. They were burning dudes in the open field.

Kid is trying to go out in a gracious way. Let's show some class and respect. He was a Cane and gave us props on the way out. Not like others who claimed to have "secrets" but were "bitting their tongues". Maybe it's because he got beat out by Gurvan maybe it's a family thing either way we have to continue to build and move on.
