Love the 6, 7, and 9-win argument. Look at our strength of schedule over those years. Relative to who we played last season, 9 wins is an absolute failure, particularly considering we didn't win the Coastal. You say he hasn't failed us yet. He sure did last season.
Perspective? Here's some perspective: 1-12 against teams with 5 or more wins, getting blown out by FSU three years in a row, and humiliating losses 2-10 Maryland, 4-8 Boston College, and 4-8 Virginia. Oh, and not to mention looking completely un-prepared and flat in his only bowl game.
Because we haven't shown any improvement over the years, it leads me to believe we'll never reach the upper echelon of College Football under this guy. But for cheerleaders like yourself, who consider beating Duke and winning the unbelievably ****ty ACC Coastal a success, I guess that's OK.
We go 12-0, we get a shot at a national title. Simple as that. **** strength of schedule.
But I'll dig into the weeds a little more than that, for the sake of other posters reading this.
Last year we beat
FAU (6-6),
UF (4-8), Savannah State (1-11), USF (2-10),
GT (7-6),
UNC (7-6), WF (4-8), UVA (2-10),
and Pitt (7-6).
So while you say Golden is "1-12 against teams with 5 or more wins," just last year we beat 4 teams with 6+ wins and a top 10 Florida team that then got killed by injuries. Get your facts straight.
Aside from FSU, who, and I hate to say this, is clearly a better team than us right now, let's take a look at your "humiliating losses":
2-10 Maryland: The first game Golden ever coached here. Half our team was suspended. The remaining half wasn't Golden's team.
4-8 Boston College: Happened in Golden's first year, so it wasn't his team. Also happened 5 days after we announced that we weren't playing in a bowl game due to the NCAA scandal. That may have disheartened the team just a little bit.
4-8 Virginia: Lost in the last second 41-40. A legitimate difficult loss, our defense played like crap (as usual).
Yes, Louisville was a horrible loss, but you have to give them credit. That team is solid and led by one of the best quarterbacks, if not the best quarterback, in the nation. A top ten draft pick. We were missing our best player (by far).
I didn't really want to get into the weeds though.
You need to understand how overall win-loss records work. If our win-loss record improves season to season, these humiliating losses stop happening because we lose less games.
I'll ask you one simple question:
If we go 10-3, 11-2, 12-1, or 13-0 next year, are you going to be upset?
