Derrick Henry's Miami Recruitment

What revisionist history..I remember this recruitment and ppl were clamoring for him as a TE or have him play LB because he was 6’3 230..Henry is literally 1 in a million with his speed, size and agility at that height and size ..most thought he was just a man among boys playing RB in HS similar to Jalen Hurd..a lot of ppl were wrong

This one's not just on Miami. Major programs and recruiters, and recruiting analysts around the country felt the same way. Turns out Henry proved them all wrong.
Exactly, simple as that. It’s funny ppl pick absolute outliers and conform it to there preconceived perception

It will be interesting to see how long Henry lasts. A lot of big backs wear out after a few years. Remember Brandon Washington for the NYG?

Still, Miami should have recruited him and let him star his career as running back.

everyone recruited the kid, and for the record, he would NEVER have come here. He's from the sticks up in the panhandle and was a legitimate superstar. He had his pick of the litter, it wouldn't have been Al Golden.

Sidenote: Henry's got a pretty good argument for one of the most accomplished football players ever. High school record for rushing, Heisman and national title, NFL rushing title, sliiiiiiiiiiim chance of a ring this year...

I remember thinking if big backs like Greg Jones and Jerome Bettis could do it, what would this guy do with his size and speed. Looks like he's done it.

I remember the recruitment, most of us thought it was the classic Bama rope a dope, where they told him he could play RB and then move him to TE or EDGE as soon as he got on campus.

As I recall, Georgia came in late and almost snagged him.
That's how I remember it. Everyone kind of rolled their eyes about him playing RB in college and that Saban would immediately move him to defense.

Yulee isn’t in the panhandle, it’s just outside of Jacksonville.

"You can't play QB for us."

I liked him best as a receiving TE. I wasn't really sold on him as a back until the AAA game. He looked powerful and explosive there.

He will always have a limited repertoire as a track runner who needs a head of steam but man is he elite at it. Darren McFadden was the same just nowhere near as big and strong.

This is why, I stand firm with MIAMI adding more NFL experience guys on their staff.. Coach's who have been fired from NFL staff's shouldn't be a negative thing when it comes to hiring better staff members for Miami football program!! MIAMI needs coach's that can identify TALENTED FOOTBALL PLAYER'S.. Too many times coach's on Miami staff have refused a HS player from coming to Miami, just to watch them years later become a NFL baller, BOTTOM LINE MIAMI NEEDS BETTER TALENT PICKERS..
These clowns couldn’t pick a winner to save their lives. We’ve had just abysmal, numbskull coaching ever since Butch left.

Saying it for years....our player development, our player evaluation....both have gone to chit. We went from coaches who had eye for talent, and putting players in the best possible position to maximize their talents, to guys who say "a football player is a football player....speed is not a prerequisite of a football player."

FML man.
I hsve been saying this since Coker took Dave Howell’s commitment a year before signing day. We hve not had a good evaluator since Butch.

You mean Brandon Jacobs? That was my boy. He played in 10+ games for 8 seasons with my Giants. I would say thats fairly durable for a bigger back. I bet Henry could do the same.

Of all the things wrong with our program these two are at the top of the list. Player evaluation and player development.
