2026 Derrek Cooper 5* RB/ATH from Chaminade Commits to Texas

This $$$$ talk from Taint is pretty rich considering they probably had the most expensive roster last season.

For perspective…they’ve supposedly been recruiting power over the last decade plus, but they still had to rely HEAVILY on the portal and pay big $$$ to win the Natty. What’s that say about their player development?

Yeah, we’re in the portal, like a bunch of schools, but Mario is still cleaning up and building up the roster from the Manny years.

Let’s not forget Clemson….back before NIL….a few DL that came back for their senior years despite being projected as 1st rd picks as a junior….yeah, sure Dabo…they didn’t receive a dime to come back

The latest on Derrek Cooper

Ohio State has wanted to add either Savion Hiter or Derrek Cooper to Favour Akih in this recruiting class. They hosted Cooper for an official visit over the weekend.

I'm told the visit, from a pure visit standpoint, went really well. Cooper and his family have long liked what the Buckeyes have to offer from a pure football and development standpoint, not to mention academics, support staff, culture, and so on.

There also has long been a thought that the preference for Cooper and those close to him was that he would leave home for college, meaning Georgia and OSU were in a more favorable position than Miami.

Where I'm not feeling so great about things right now, though, is that in speaking with sources I think this recruitment is going to become a NIL recruitment. And I don't see

Ohio State (or Georgia) being the top bidder in this recruitment, from what I am told.

Now, the Buckeyes and the Bulldogs both have "competitive offers" for a RB of Cooper's caliber at the high school ranks, but with what I am told the Hurricanes have in front of the Cooper camp, and with this becoming the factor in this race, I would pick The U as of now for the talented back.

Guess in the last 5 days since their last update where it was down to UGA and Ohio St this suddenly became an NIL recruitment.

Maybe all that changed is Ohio St realized his OV was just an bag drop OV lol

They just can’t say they took the L cause of relationships. All the NIL packages are probably about the same and bags at all the programs. Just say the relationship battle you lost it’s that simple.
They're not though.

Miami, Oregon & Texas, are the top bidders in the NIL game.

A lot of programs get by low-balling prospects by adding in ancillary factors that aren't actually tangible but are grounded in their program prestige.

But dollar for dollar, only Oregon & Texas are actually competing with us in terms of negotiating hard cash in NIL deals.

**** if this is true, I hate to bring this sh up again for the 100th time. WTH happened with JS and OSU? Weren’t we outbid by them…..they also said they OSU have the most expensive roster in cfb

I'm not sure UM is anything more than top 8-10.

It just seems like we are more than willing to dump it all on one player than some of the big boys. (Cantwell, Beck)…Maybe I'm wrong and you are right though.

So what if Cooper’s decision ends up being a NIL decision?

I remember when Miami was a poverty program and needed a 58-0 home loss to begin to course correct.

He didn't wanna come here because like most SF kids, they don't value Miami as much as others.

Oh ST spent $30mill on their entire roster last year, which was primarily Portal spending.

I'm talking about HS recruiting spending.
