I'm with OP. I hope FSU somehow wins against Bama. Obviously it would make our matchup with them all the more significant. More importantly, if they lose, they will absolutely be ready for us. I would prefer they not have the benefit of losing, if you know what I mean, before they play us. GO CANES!!

Nobody ever suggested rooting for FSU or Alabama. I won't be rooting for either team because they both recruit against us.

But I'm also not so stupid as to not understand that one of those teams is going to win and I believe it's better for us all the way around if FSU is #1 when we play.

If Bama wins, the pro-SEC homers are going to treat our game with a "been there, done that" attitude. And even if we beat FSU there will be the "Bama did it first/better" sentiment. And if we lose, we'll be considered a 2nd tier team for the rest of the season.

A win against #1 FSU in prime time national television silences all of that noise, and makes a statement that cannot be ignored or downplayed.

They're still Top 10 and ranked ahead of us when we play them. Losing to #1 Bama won't drop them too far.

Too many question marks on offense for them and Charles Kelly on D. They lose to Bama and Miami for those reasons.

I understand this argument. However, what we can root for without selling our souls to our arch rival is hoping that ND, VT, Pitt are ranked in November when we play them - then things should take care of themselves.

They were discussing this last night on college fball live.

They emphasize W-L strength and factor in when a particular win or loss occurred.

It's why Penn State's loss against Pitt kept them from getting in.

They probably had a better resume than Washington but they lost to an unranked Pitt team and that was a big blemish.

Penn State had two losses though and one was a blowout loss to Michigan. Washington lost to USC when USC was starting to hit their stride last year.

This whole notion that some of you guys have about them beating bama and being number 1 is fcking disgusting. They lose week 1, follow up with a blowout and they're still top 10 and the game is still prime time. We haven't beaten them in 7 seasons and you want them to beat bama in a massive game and have as much momentum as a team can possibly have 3 weeks into the season.
