Dawson is fed up with the inside run talk

He's not wrong. The issue is we don't have the explosive back who hits the hole like a missile. That's not me trashing our backs -- I quite like them -- just saying we don't have that HR hitter in the backfield.
It’s more that we don’t have the interior line to move odd fronts. We really struggle with it. Especially with our splits and the free runners off the edge. The duo blockers can’t get off fast enough to get backers and they have free runs. Honestly the answer is spacing. If we spread teams out we will bully them the way they want

It makes sense what he is saying but I would love to see at least some I under the center or single back. Can do play action off of it and Carson is tall enough and athletic enough to get the handoff right or left on a stretch.

If we ran trap or counter with this fanbase they'd just think it was another "run up the middle."
This is a good point. A lot of people (not all) on this board have never coached football. They watch it on weekends and think they know what teams are doing, but they are clueless. I agree that we are too loyal to A-gap Duo, but we run way more than that. The untrained eye doesn’t notice the subtle nuances in our run game.

It can certainly get better, but I understand some of his frustration. Just because a run ends up in the same gap, doesn’t mean it’s the same play as the previous one we ran that ended up being in that same gap.

I think my biggest criticism of Dawson is we rely on the same few plays in obvious running downs. We need diversity in the 3rd and short situations because teams are selling out and even when we convert, it’s by the skin of our teeth.

I don't understand why they don't do this

I dig it from all angles honestly

Someone needs to ask questions even if the coach thinks it’s dumb

I remember Dorito and Golden and their arrogance defending their defense like everyone was too stupid to understand but them

That’s not Dawson, not yet anyway

Oklahoma ran the counter trey with Rhamondre Stevenson, who weighed 235 at that time, to absolute perfection.

We can run that, we just choose not to.

Did anyone ask him about the shotgun formation A gap dive on 4th down with the 3 DL lined up over the C and Gs and 3 LBs stacked 3 yards right behind them?
where was this at in the game? Do you remember? I want to go back and see that sh*t.

There was a graphic that broke down our running game and how often we run outside zone, vs duo, etc etc. It compared us to other teams, IIRC.

Does anyone still have that graphic handy?
