Chadwell was my brother’s college roommate their first 2 years at ETSU before my brother transferred to Wake Forest. He used to stop by the house when I was younger and he was coaching at ETSU. Great guy but he reminds me of Mike Gundy (not just the mullet) or Satterfield. Country guy and old school personality. A lot of people probably say he wouldn’t fit.. I can’t make up my mind on that. You would have said the same about Jimmy, Butch, and Dennis.. Chadwell definitely doesn’t have the charisma Jimmy had though.
Good coach. Good X&O guy and I like his scheme. I’d be concerned about his lack of connections for staff at this level. He’d likely lose his DC because he’d probably get the HC job at Coastal.
Curious are you familiar with the below rumor on Chadwell some years back?
While at Charleston Southern during the end of the 2015 season Georgia Southern was interested in him as a HC candidate. There was a rumor that he only wanted to go to a university where the administration was invested into putting resources in building and progressing its football program. Allegedly after doing some digging he found that Georgia Southern leadership was not investing in its football program as it should and was living off of its past football accomplishments (like Miami) and Chadwell supposedly became disinterested in the job.
If true it kind of speaks to his ability to identify the right fit, just as everyone else keeps bringing up the fit from a fans perceived point of view.
Either way I been watching all of their games the past two seasons and I agree he is an elite offensive mind and runs a great scheme. And it appears he know how to recruit and develop players that fit his scheme. If he came here I could see it working if he didn't try to go the Scott Frost route by brining his whole staff. As an example he would benefit by keeping say Fields and Hickson while adding other P5 coaches with experience and only bringing a few coastal coaches with him if needed.
I include him in the candidate list of coaches like Herman, Freeze, and etc. where their offensive brilliance is what is intriguing and they need to be paired with a good DC and recruiting staff to give themselves the best chance at success.
Napier is just slightly below them as a play caller since he calls his own plays as well, but is on par with if not better as a recruiter.
Mario is obviously the CEO type and probably the best recruiter of the bunch.
Fickell, Hafley, Clawson, are great culture builders and have proven the ability to compete with less talent.
Pros and Cons to all I am leaning towards the offensive minds or Mario, but I think they all can succeed if they put the right supporting pieces around themselves.
