Dan Le Betard Show - Miami Scoop

I haven't gotten through the entire podcast, but it starts at 2 min and has a lot of insight.

Go Canes!
Interesting debate on the show. One thought big resources are coming, another thought real Miami adminstrators are more focused on academics and research.

One faction is gonna win this contest..one is going to lose... even if they take a "compromise" agreement.

Also, they seem to corroborate their previous podcast. NOW WITH SAID... there are alot of people who repeat the same garbage over and over again in hopes it is true.

Remember these posts as we disect all the messaging--and make no mistake these two Le Batard podcasts someone is sending a message through them--let's see how this plays out.

Somebody is going to be right, somebody is going to be wrong.

Don't pay any attention to those with vague statements, focus on who is putting markers down and see the true message.

Great thing happens when the future arrives--it has a ruthless way of validating/invalidating the past.

Not discounting anything else you're saying but this specific debate involved David Samson taking the side of academics, research, etc. is the ONLY thing the school cares about (he references Frenk specifically as if he's had some interaction with him but I just think he's confating him with Shalala and their Marlins/OB interactions).

I can tell you from actually having listened to him repeatedly (unfortunately) on this subject that Samson knows absolutely nothing about college football or college sports in general and what it takes to be successful. AT MOST, he's probably perused the lists of how much programs spend and how profitable they are. I'm actually amazed that Mike Ryan is as patient as he is with Samson's bullsh!t and ignorant bluster.

Samson speaking on something he doesn't know, shocking. SHOCKING

Hahaha. Exactly. And he does it with suchhhhh conviction and arrogance too. They obviously like his association with the show but I don't see how they don't occasionally just say "You obviously have zero idea what you're talking about here as everything you just squealed about was categorically wrong".

Didn't say we shouldn't increase it. If the budget is being increased, it will naturally. But my main thing is make our staff look like a playoff team's staff. UGA, Bama, OU maybe, Clemson, ND etc. I want britches being soiled all along the south east.

100% that you bring the observation.

He did take a very hard line on his view of what the University values.

I do believe they were all in agreement that anything that leads to positive branding for Miami trickles down to all facets of the University.

Yep, and you don't see the academic logo on its branding. It's only right that they use some of that immense profit to support THE reason the school is internationally known...
It's not that easy. Depending on how U Health is structured, they just can't go buy ho-hos and extra recruiting trips on private planes.

In some cases, medical money is strictly controlled, particulary when it comes to Medicare/Medicaid re-admits, Certificates of Need (I think FL reqs them), etc.

Not as much "facilities" as it is "resources".

We need to hire a LOT more people for training, nutrition, recruiting support, stat/video breakdowns, and consultants. Of course, you would probably need to build a small office building for those people too, but that's a much smaller issue.
Boom!!!

That’s why they want to run this like a professional organization. From scouting , evaluating , S&C and more money in recruiting. Development and evaluating has been the biggest issues here for a long time. More eyes and smart football people make a huge difference.

And, to add to this, we need a widely respected stud DC no matter who we bring in as HC. Overpay them like the big boys overpay their DC's. Our DC needs to earn more than a lot of D1 HC's. That's the level we need.

Amazing how that technique is used by those who know so. very little and can't back it up when called on it.

I do agree this Mike Ryan fellow humored him a touch, but his tone clearly communicated he [Ryan] didn't agree with Samson on the ONLY focus of the University.

👍👍👍👍 Perhaps the light bulb finally turned on as they see the benefits of running UHealth in a more professional manner.

If these rumors and messges are true and Miami. commits big boy resources to AD, I'm. guardedly optimistic of what the future in 3-5 years holds for our Miami Hurricanes.

Keep sending us your telegraphs from the future!

Seriously though, where is this extra $20 - $30 million annually going to go? It’s my understanding the facilities outside the locker room aren’t bad and they plan on renovating it soon.

coaching salaries? 7 million more
More strength, conditioning, and Nutrition staff? 1 million?
Analyst and support staff? 1 million
Recruiting. 3 million.

That’s $12 million right there. At a minimum they will have an extra 8 to play with. I’m curious where that money is needed.

Exactly. Mike Ryan made the point that you just mentioned that football success trickles to the other parts of the university as a whole. Like you said, Samson then seemingly pivoted and agreed with and reiterated that. He never makes the case then that UM doesn't understand this if we believe his assertion that they still really don't care about sports at all. So he basically just came off as scatterbrained and either putting forth an incomplete argument or one based in ideas that are running in opposition with each other.

Would this be an annual bump, or one time cash infusion?
That's the question. Will this bump be consistent, or is it a "We're going to help, you better be able to keep this going on your own" type of deal? If Miami is making CFP appearances regularly and playing in major bowl games, the infusion shouldn't be needed long term. What happens if Miami hires Mario/Lane and they fail? Will they see it through? Or will they back out?
