DAILY DEBATE: Who will be Miami’s quarterback in 2026?

Why are our young QB’s too young to play but young QB’s are not too young to play at:
Michigan
Florida
Notre Dame

Just to name 3 programs off the top of my head that will start 1st or 2nd year QB’s.. I hope our coaches don’t live in their fears as so many of you seem to.

Michigan - #1 qb recruit
Florida #1 QB recruit who only started early because Miaim knocked out Mertz
ND- #6 QB recruit, Top 50 overall. redshirted
Miami - Nickel - Top 250ish recruit who was a late riser his senior year. Will redshirt this year.

Im expecting Emory to bounce after the season, so even if Nickel is the truth, I'd expect Miami will bring in someone to compete with him whos got starting experience and not have the rely on Judd and Coleman as the backup.

I think this will be the last season we have Dawson so maybe the top portal QB will be a tougher pull but I still don’t see Mario giving the reigns to Nickel yet.

Nickel vs. Coleman, with Nickel likely winning due to having more time in the system(But I wouldn't be shocked if there's a strong push from Coleman). Unless Luke looks terrible in garbage time this year, I think it's time to start running with what's on the roster. This one year rental thing isn't a sustainable situation. Unless an elite guy hits the portal and you know he wants to come to Miami, you trust your evals. I think Coleman is legit, he has a lot of Cam in his game and honestly, if a guy can play, play him. The days of stashing QBs are over, because guys that realize they can play aren't sticking around to warm the bench.

The staff Going with Emery isn’t gonna happen in a million years! Get real with your take man, you think the staff is so stupid that after coming off Cam and Beck that they’re going to go with a guy that can’t complete a forward pass without getting batted down by the defensive line? Lol Emory will never start here and anyone who thinks otherwise, I questioned their knowledge of this game or ability to evaluate anything as far as quarterbacks go. Smh
People love to get aggressive on here for no reason lol I clearly said we should go with a portal QB - I too don’t like Emory and don’t trust any of the other guys yet. The staff likes Emory - we’ve been told this many times. They also paid up to keep him from portaling. This tells me they, stupidly, may go with a competition of existing guys next spring.

it has been sustainable since the mid 2000s.

Not sure why ppl think it isnt sustainable?. Kids are allowed to transfer every year...the qb is the most volatile position...there will be high level transfer portal qbs every year with Miami being a prime destination every year.

Onlyw ay i stop is if one of my hs recruited qbs beat out my transfer portal qb.

Take the best transfer you can get, and do it early enough to scoop up other talents in the portal. Prioritize ability and character ($$$) and let the best men win.

I’m gonna say the portal because Mario and Dawson haven’t evaluated and developed a HS quarterback worth a **** since they’ve been here

There is a very simple answer to this question

Those teams spend big on elite HS prospects at QB, we spend big on top proven portal QBs. It’s been said we have tried to spend for a HS qb too but it hasn’t panned out.
