DAILY DEBATE: Who is the best running back in Miami history?

If I’m going strictly off of University of Miami production & not swayed by NFL career it would be:

-Edge
-Portis
-McGahee
-Johnson
-Anderson

If I’m going off both NFL career and Miami production it would be

-Edge
-Portis
-Anderson

Out of those 3, I’m taking Edge. However, if Duke Johnson had a prolific NFL career, I would argue he was our best running back b/c the shear amount of all purpose yards he put up in only 3 yrs is legendary.

When I think Miami, I don't think what they did or didn't do in the NFL.

If I had to pick one running back for basically a team, say this year's team, I'm going with McGahee. I'll take Edge right after him though.

Doesn’t necessarily need to be the most prolific Miami career.

My top 2 have, for quite some time, been Ottis Anderson and Frank Gore.

Ottis played on terrible teams. Frank did not.

Both were amazing.

Ottis also did not have the quality of surgical repair that Frank had. Man, I wish Ottis had been 20-25 years younger...

Depends on the criteria and definition of best.
Best single season=McGahee
Best career at UM=Edge or maybe even Portis
Best carrier as a back including the NFL=Edge or Gore

I admittedly never saw OJ Anderson play in college but he was a very good pro RB.

So I guess without a definitive definition, I came back to Edge since he is 2 of my 3 categories

McGahee's 2002 campaign was the most dominant & electrifying I've ever seen a UM RB have....that being said, Edge would've been Frightening on better UM teams.

That’s the secret sauce right there. Absolutely no shade on Willis, but he played behind some insane olines that opened gaping holes. He was rarely touched inside 6 or 7 yards from the line scrimmage.

Doesn’t necessarily need to be the most prolific Miami career.
Sorry but Frank was hurt too much to be considered - Edge wins. HOWEVER Frank was the best I ever saw in one season - when he was a Frosh - kid just had speed and moves. So interesting he developed into a power back. Either way - I have two signed UM helmets with both of these HOFs sitting in my office.

Gore's ability set up blocks and defenders is underrated. Total package.

Loved all of them.

Personal favs are Gore, McGahee, Portis, Edge, and Duke.

Lamar Miller was fun as **** to watch break long runs at UM too.
