Craig Kuligowski

I wonder if Richt is friendly enough with Pinkel to get an honest opinion from him as to why he never promoted Kuligowski to DC.

Not good enough to be DC at Missouri, but is for Miami...? That possible?

That's the part that would probably stop me from making him anything other than a co-DC paired with a veteran DC. He worked with Pinkel forever, and Pinkel had several chances to promote him to DC. He likely saw something he didn't think would translate to being a DC.

Has there ever been a successful team with co-DCs and co-OCs?

UF with Shannon and Collins. Tcu has co oc, Clemson does right now for oc too

Do you have any examples for both sides of the ball? Bc that's what he's talking about..

He was offered the DC position at Illinois a year ago but turned it down. If we reach for a first time DC, this is the guy I would want.
You sure he turned it down? He got mad when Pinkel went to Memphis to get Odom as the new DC. So he went to Illinois to interview for their DC gig. Why would he then turn it down?

Per the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Kuligowski had been considering an offer to become Illinois's co-defensive coordinator "for several weeks," and that Missouri was unaware of any final decision as of Monday morning. But the longtime Gary Pinkel assistant will remain in Columbia for at least another year.

“As a coach, you're always looking to advance yourself professionally in hopes of someday having a chance to become a head coach," Kuligowski said in a statement. "It was important for me and my family to consider this opportunity, and I'm grateful to have gone through the experience, but after evaluating everything, what is best for us is to stay here at Mizzou.”

That story is from January 26, 2015.

This guy should be back in play.

If he was a **** hair away from jumping into the toxic cesspool that is Illinois for a co-DC gig while he already had a good job at Mizzou, then Richt should be able to get the currently jobless version of Kuligowski here for less than the sole DC job.

I think the question of whether or not he's qualified to be a DC is legit. That said, if I were to take a leap of faith with any unproven guy, it would be a guy like Kuligowski. If richt was a defensive guy, I'd be less concerned but he's not. What I like about Kuligowski is that he's lined up against the spread for a long time. I dunno on this one.

I don't get the fascination with co-coordinators. Make a decision and ride with it. One leader, one voice on each side of the ball. I get that on offense, with Richt wanting to call plays, you offer a co-OC title but everyone knows who is in charge of the offense - the HC. Don't do it on defense - makes zero sense.

I can't think of any. I know there have been a lot of successful teams with co-coordinators on one side of the ball. I can't think of one that did it on offense and defense.

Oklahoma?
I know they have co-OCs.....didn't they have co-DCs at one point with Venables being one of the coordinators?

//too lazy to check.

I could live with Kuligowski and Raymond as Co-DCs

What are their current salaries? I saw of Wikipedia (not reliable) that Raymond makes $850,000 as a DB coach... I know we've got big bucks to shell out but **** that's a lot of bread regardless of who he's coached. Can we afford both?

Pretty sure Mike Poops is the sole DC unless they threw someone a bone. Mike Poops is clearly the guy in charge on D though. He makes all the calls.

I think he might be coming. He is following all 3 of our d-line commits recently and is following some guys richt has recently offered or targeting. May not mean anything but i think he is coming in some capacity.

If LSU is paying a DB coach that much scratch they must have the biggest assistant payroll in college football. I'm sure there are plenty of NFL DB coaches not making $850K per. Throw in Orgeron who is probably making close to a mill to coach the DL and Cameron who is stealing $1.5 to run a horrid offense. Funny thing is the state of Louisiana was broke.
