Craig Kuligowski

I am fapped out with this news! No D gone and the possibility of a savage D-Line coach coming to the U! Boing!

the new DC will find a DL Coach. this board has been 100% wrong on everything so far. Richt got this.

Not always the case with DL coaches.
The great DL coaches have been known to be kept on staffs throughout various HC and DC changes.
This has been true at the college and pro level.

Like kuligowski?

Anyone know why Odom wouldn't retain this guy if he's one of the best in the nation

Kuligowski wanted the DC job that Pinkel gave to Odom. Smart move by Odom not keeping the guy who wanted your spot.

I did a yearly breakdown of Kuligowski's line production over the past 10 plus seasons. He has produced 10 NFL lineman in the last 10 years, mostly with 2 and 3 star recruits. For comparison, Miami has had only 7 guys drafted and only 1 in the first two rounds. Even the guys who aren't NFLers have production while in college. Impressive group considering Mizzou has no real local talent base. They went to Texas for most of their lineman who turned into NFL type talent. He is generally getting about 25 sacks per year from his D-Linemen. I have not included LB and DB sacks in the totals. I think he would be great here, having access to better talent.

Deserves an upvote on sheer effort alone.

Kuligowski is maybe the best DL coach in FBS. You don't wait around to get approval from your DC to hire the guy.

LOL at having to explain something so obvious. You don't wait around with a guy like this. You grab him before someone else does. Your DC will thank you for it.

Anyone read or hear anything about how much of a role Kuligowski played in selecting the DLinemen at Mizzou? Half the battle is picking the right guys when you're turning that any 3 stars into superlative performers.

Interesting. How's he as a recruiter? Obviously has a proven track record of development. Would love to see what he could do with Miami caliber talent at DL.

Who cares about how he recruits?

Me. That's why I asked the question.

It's Miami. Win and kids come. It's that simple

People are too caught up with having a staff of recruiters.

Especially when this is a coach that does what actually made Miami great: finds great players and coaches them up regardless of recruiting rankings.

It's amazing how everyone talks about wanting the old Miami back, yet wants us to act like Notre Dame and FSU. What made us better than those teams is we didn't waste time begging national stars to come play for us. We found the hungriest nastiest athletes and taught them the game.

What if he's offered a co-DC position? I think it would take a little more to land him than just a DLC position

In all seriousness maybe we can get the other HC in Georgia to resume his old duties after the NFL season concludes.

He can obviously turn water to wine because you know he wasn't getting a pipeline of 4&5* d-linemen at Mizzou. If he was turing their 3* linemen into draft choices then I'm confident he can recruit 4* talent here. If he could do it with the talent he was getting at Mizzou, my theory is that he'd do better with better talent.

SBN's Atlanta Falcons blog advocates for Craig Kuligowski to become their pass rush coach but I'm hearing rumors that he could join Mark Richt at Miami to become the Hurricane's defensive coordinator/ defensive line coach.

Miami plays Washington State today at 1:00 pm, after which Mark Richt will take over coaching duties. Something to keep an eye on.

Guy is the best DL coach in the country and knows how to be aggressive with his DL. I can only imagine his defense as a whole. Might be time for a promotion. Not sure if he's ready but with his history, I'm probably more comfortable with him then any other rookie DC.
