Coaching search update

You don't hire a guy like Strong when someone like Butch is available. This program needs a sure thing. It's possible Strong's results at TX are an anomaly, but the results are nonetheless disconcerting. Equally disconcerting is that Strong is in conversation, which would suggest he is open to the opportunity and therefore can't or doesn't want to handle the challenge of succeeding under challenging conditions at a program with high expectations. Meanwhile, Butch took on Miami when it was a dumpster fire and within 5 years put the entire college football world on tilt. Then he followed that up by turning f*cking North Carolina into an NFL meat market.

This program needs: (1) a proven commodity who (2) will excite the fanbase and (3) bring some edge back to the manner in which we play football. Butch meets all criteria. Herman does too, though he is less of a proven commodity. Of the names thrown around to date, the only other guy in that bucket is Pagano. Presuming there is no realistic chance to bring in a ringer like Chip Kelly, the list should be limited to those three in that order.

Just bring Butch back and be done. Everybody happy except a few punk *** BOT members who think that UNC soap scandal is a hig moral reason to not consider Butch. F them! That man was never implicated in that "institutional" issue

we know hes innocent my thing is did he committ murder, who cares if he was guilty hes the best manfor the job *** it hire him. e way. mi hate new america with these scared *** people acared of image and all that ****. i want miami to rape. butch is the way we protect sfla and rape everyone so be it. miami needs to embrace its identity n be bad asses and win and be recognized as the most hated school on the planet

I hope not strong, dude has don't squat without teddy, sure brad is here, but we can't just have a coach who got lucky with a good QB once .. and can't do anything else to make it happen.

Spoke to someone with direct link to decisionmakers. Butch has strong support with key members of Board. There are still some people against him, but the tide is turning. I become more optimistic by the day.

Money will not be an issue. The school knows how important this decision is. I expect Blake to be given the opportunity to conduct a true search and come up with the best candidate. This will not be a lazy process.

It's extremely early, but the two names with momentum are Butch Davis and Charlie Strong. And the obvious choice for offensive coordinator (in my opinion- not info) would be Ken Dorsey, QB coach for MVP candidate Cam Newton.

But but but the ghey unibrow Ariz said Butch wouldn't even be considered....

"This will not be a lazy process."

As opposed to the last two searches.
The fact that we have to make that distinction says everything about the incompetence of those in charge.

Michael Irvin was on Mike and Mike this morning talking about the kick-off return and coaching search. When asked about Butch Davis in his age Irvin paused for a second. Didn't sound like he wants Butch or he knows that Butch isn't coming. Also said that Butch is the fans favorite, but not everybody else.

Michael's also the guy that was behind Golden the whole time and asked fans to be patient, so as far as this coaching search is concerned he can go **** himself.

When Carter or somebody mumbled Herman, Irvin got excited saying that we need to get back to that Miami style of football, and we need a coach to bring back that Miami brand of football. Oh yeah him and Vilma have a say at the next corch

Irvin's right about needing to restore an exciting brand. He mentioned it before when he talked about not needing a "Miami man."

And as much as everyone (myself included) likes Butch, that's far and away the biggest concern with him. He's only coached 4 of the last 10 years and UNC's offenses were absolutely putrid. He botched that OC hire (John Shoop) and stuck with him for four years. It was a slow paced, conservative, unexciting, unproductive offense throughout his entire tenure with the Tar Heels.

If Butch plans to hire an innovative young offensive mind to run a much more dynamic attack than what we saw at UNC, then that would be excellent.
Butch beat Miami 3 out of 4 times with NC players. North Carolina had 13 players suspended his last year after he built a very solid team. That was the only year Miami beat Butch. The terms of Davis' settlement with the University of North Carolina prevented him from taking a coaching position, and he was instead hired as an advisor to Schiano at Tampa Bay.

First off I want Butch Davis as coach, however, how long do you give him if things don't start out well and he loses a few " should win" games? But you already have him 5 years on his contract.
Do we ride out the 5 years or are we right back here with banners and billboards, ordering late night pizzas and what not.

Pete was just repeating what BoT members told him verbatim. I have been skeptical of Butch coming back for the same reason.

It seems the tide is turning and I'd encourage the BBB crowd to keep making noise.

Texas Didn't have a Kid Drafted last year. The NFL people said they don't have a Sr or Jr on this yeas team that should be drafted. That's not on Strong.

Iowa State also had nobody drafted last year. That's on Strong.

I am betting there have been a few emails mentioning that hiring Butch might be a really good idea. Also, I am thinking this site in monitored for intel on future flight plans for the Cane Air Force. Plus, this hate crap since Saturday, just might get a couple guys thinking, so you hate us, well I will give you a frigging reason to hate us. Plus, Butch looked good in that white shirt and tie on the way to drinks with the CEO the other day.

Let the word go out to all corners of the world: GIVE US BUTCH OR GIVE US DEATH!!!!

I want Chud, I think we need an offensive coach. I am fine with Butch, not a big fan of strong but it can work. I don't want Rich Rod because of his offense.

This is my concern also. Butch had so much talent at UNC and they were an average team.

Your suggestion is to pair a first time OC with a defensive minded coach? How does this help us on offense?

Dorsey is a rising star. Cam Newton is the talk of the NFL and he is playing smart. Offensive coordinator at a big school is the logical next step for him. The fit with Kaaya is obvious.

I'm on the side of not wanting anyone learn to do a job on our time. Even if its dorsey.

I understand that Dorsey's NFL resume certainly justifies his next step being hired as an OC (on either level) but I'd be lying if I didn't say it'd make me nervous if we hire a defensive minded HC. I'd really like to see him here first in some co-OC type position maybe with addl titles that have been mentioned like associate head coach or passing game coordinator.

UNC's offense was ranked 108th in Year 3 of Butch's tenure there. Everyone likes Butch and for good reason, but there's no excusing how painfully conservative and undeniably abysmal UNC's John Shoop-led offense was throughout his tenure there. That can't just be dismissed or overlooked, especially when we're nitpicking everything about every possible candidate. That's the only offense he's coached in the last 10 years.

People talk as if there's zero risk with Butch and that's just not reality. And I say that as someone who obviously likes Butch and would be celebrating along with everyone else if he's hired.

iowa st played baylor pretty good.

Haha. That was part of a 3 game losing streak they were riding into the Texas game. A streak in which they lost each tilt by an average of about 25 pts. Then they go out and not only beat Chuck's squad by that margin but they shut him out too. Then he says after that it wasn't an embarrassing loss and that his guys played hard. This ALONE should disqualify him from even being considered here let alone getting a major payday from us.
