CJ Carr named starting QB for Notre Dame

It appears that the opener is not sold out yet. Also - did not realize it only holds 65,000 vs the 107,000 Texas A&M capacity crowd ND faced last year in the opener. Not too worried about the crowd, Miami fans are fair weather fans and will be headed for the exits by the middle of the 3rd Qtr.

Come party with us in the blue lot.

Yes Ian Book did say the crowd was out of control loud. It probably will sell out by game time, but just looking at the facts, you did not have that many sold out games in the last 3years, and not many last year. Thats even with a good 10 win year and a dynamic 1st round QB.

If you think that selling a couple of extra seats in the club section is the difference-maker on the noise levels, you have a lot to learn about Miami crowds.

People will show up because they hate Notre Dame, not because of how many wins we had last year.

Nobody is mentioning their defense. Its good
I watched a couple HS highlights and their scrimmage highlights. I don't think Carr is slow or a statue. He's able to move in the pocket and was able to escape pressure on several occasions. That said, it does not appear that he is a willing runner. So he's not a dual threat in the sense that I don't expect him to be taking off a whole lot. I wonder if ND calls some designed runs for him early just to keep D off balance though?

He seems to struggle with pressure up the middle. His footwork in those instances was bad, i.e., throwing off back foot.

Edit: There were a couple clips of him eluding pressure by turning his back to defense and running in opposite direction. That's not usually something you can get away with in college. We can really capitalize on this. I'm sure he'll learn what he can and can't get away with in college but we should feast in his first game while he's learning.
Carr struggles with pressure in his face.
Mo Toure is supposed to be a great blitzer. 🤔

The 2017 game is irrelevant at this point. Different teams, different coaches, different schemes. No comparison. Also - perhaps my comment about sold out games is irrelevant also, but history has shown that sell out large crowds are not the norm.

It's not irrelevant when you are discussing heat, humidity, noise levels, and hatred of Notre Dame. Those issues are eternal.

… you did not have that many sold out games in the last 3years, and not many last year….

Whether this is true or not, what the **** does it have to do with this particular game. Let me answer the question for you, absolutely nothing. Any other completely irrelevant points that you want to make?

Who the **** is saying that what happened on the field in 2017 is relevant to this year?

2017 is relevant in the sense that the atmosphere will 100% be the same or worse for you all. If you choose not to believe that because we didn't sell out other games last year, then you are dumber than I initially thought.

I doubt that CJ Carr has taken 1 hit since he has been at ND. He is having problems without being hit in practice. Now, he's walking into this humidity with the 17 atmosphere and he is going to get hit even with a good OL and I would guess early. ND has great weapons and trenches on O. The best we will face. The most important position will be their weakness, QB. R. Leonard was the go to in short yardage last season. That pulling G and RB lead blockers were a killer. They should have kept Angeli or gotten a vet QB.
In 2017 we were able to overwhelm their OTs with speed and beat their pullers to the punch in the backfield. Love is a speedier back than Adams was and their run schemes are likely different (probably less slow developing) but that was how we snuffed their run before.

Any of the resident X and O guys might be able to compare how they run it now to then. I don't know if we are as twitchy at the edge now as we were in 2017 or if Hetherman run a scheme that would allow us to exploit less agile OTs with slow developing run schemes if indeed ND still likes to run it that way.

After Catholics vs Convicts, every ND game in Miami will be a sellout. I can also tell you that the roof on HRS is absolutely a factor in noise levels, so 65k against a team with a chip on their shoulder vs 107k against the nicest fans in CFB is not a 1:1 comparison.

In all seriousness…

Maudes have a tough job here. To ban the troll outright, or let him die his own death from the hordes of posters 1000x more knowledgable than him tearing him and his "arguments" to shreds?

Multiple of your players made comment of this. Opposing fans get caught up in media and think its gonna be empty or we gonna be sitting in library. I actually would rather it not be mentioned and opposing team just be greeted with it and believe media.. But we dont need every single seat sold out to make it hostile.

It wasnt only ian book. From Head coach to multiple players.. It was something that affected the whole program, I hope you come and catch the vibe also.. Its different that college atmosphere, you can come and get all your stereotypes off if you want, good times will be had..

“(Our guys) wanted to win really, really bad,” Kelly said. “I have to do a better job of keeping them in the moment and keeping them from being distracted from all that’s going on around them.

“I’ve never given (big-game atmospheres) too much thought because we play in a big-game atmosphere at Notre Dame, but this one was a little bit different. A number of these kids hadn’t played in a game of this magnitude since maybe the Clemson game (in 2015), and I don’t know that there were many defensive players on the field for that.”

“I think just credit to them all over the place,” Tranquill said. “Credit to their fans. That was the loudest game I’ve ever played in. I think that they really added an element to help them.”

Tranquill said when noise becomes a factor, the defense has to communicate with their hands. When the crowd becomes “super into it, it’s hard to catch a rhythm,” he said.

It is relevant to where a freshman QB gets his first live college snaps.

We will see if it reaches ND 2017 levels.

We were ranked 7 and undefeated while they were ranked 3rd with 1 loss. It's a little different when you were just coming off that VTech game with a great performance and are doing very well already and have all the hype of the turnover chain adding to the excitement....

Plus the game started off pretty well for us which is an important aspect of all this.

I'm hopeful it'll match that environment or at least be close.
