CJ Bailey needs to come home

So no QB drafted high can be a bad pick as long as they’re athletic with a big arm?…
It can be a bad pick, but in the grand scheme of things if you're running an NFL franchise and you don't have a Qb, you're ****ed. It's better to take big swings than small swings is my point. Ultimately you have to make smart decisions though. My point was relative to some other Qb options though. Obviously the correct choice is to take the guy that has it all. The QBs drafted after Anthony Richardson were Will Levis, Hendon Hooker, haener, Stetson bennet, aidan oconnell, clayton tune, DTR... the 2 taken ahead were Bryce Yong and CJ Stroud. You have a top 4 pick and a critical Need at QB... Takes 2 to tango to trade down. I don't think anyone was thinking Richardson was some high likelihood hit. It was fully about the hope that you have quite literally the most athletic well built qb of all time basically, with a very strong arm, and you'd hope hed get more accurate and get the mental right. But the top problem honestly is drafting Qbs who don't have the requisite starting experience. From HS+CFB Guys should honestly probably have Like Min 50 starts.

But the idea that because some Qbs that have gone top 5 have sucked is some irrelevant indicator of Qb talent is ******* stupid.

Like this year If I were drafting a Qb, I'd probably swing on Mateer or Sawyer Robertson. After them I'd probably be Mendoza or Beck, but I do think Allar is the bigger swing. After them I'd go Ty Simpson, Klubnik, Maverick McIvor, Jalon Daniels, or Noah Fifita (major size concerns though). Nussmeier, Luke Altmyer, Blake Shapen after them... I think Sellers, Dante Moore, Leavitt, Maiava, Hoover, Mensah, Nico, Arch, etc all return.

Unless I'm missing something, I don't think any of us are saying that he isn't good right now.
@Memnon said nobody would know about him if he wasn’t from Miami. That’s absurd to me since Mendoza is a national name. Memnon is one of, if not the, best posters ever on this site and has been for years. But I think he likes to troll people with some of his anti-South Florida takes.

I won’t argue for Mendoza’s pro prospects because I’m not convinced. But as a college player, he’s a star and has proven many on this board dead wrong.

But it isn't especially if you watch the games.

Versus Oregon Mendoza was managed by the OC so they could escape with a win - most of the throws were horizontal and short especially in the second half
Brother Will Howard won the natty last year in the same season we had a generational talent at Qb. Mendoza wins cfb games man..regardless of team or scheme. I love Bailey but this notion of Mendoza not being a baller is mind boggling..to me.

Who cares if it does? Bring 2 cheap HS QBs a year if you have to. Tell them our plan is to portal, but if you show out in practice after a couple years of development you can earn the job. It’s up to them to make us not want to portal. But if like Nickel hasn’t shown he’s capable of taking the starting job next yr why would we not portal?
You have to start developing your own quarterbacks at some point, wouldn’t it be nice to recruit elite wide receivers with an established quarterback already on your roster?

Sellers is my favorite of all these guys including Mendoza, both for college and NFL. Elite tools and great character.
Great character common with Mendoza and Sellers. Really impressed with Sellers in interviews he’s a great leader

He’s missing high a lot this year. Like a ton. Probably part of more pressure than last year and just some mechanics that need more work

He could go pro but he’d be wise to take a big payday from us and then go Top 5

I know mocks are all over him but he needs work imo

My "anti-South Florida" takes are simply that people who think & believe we should only ever recruit players & hire Coaches from SF are foolhardy because no other program in America does that.

I'm from South FL born & raised, but unfortunately there are other places in the country that also exist & have Football players. What I don't do is pretend SF is the only place on the planet that has good football players. I'm not going to overhype a player I don't think is good just because he happens to be from the same place as me.

I call it as I see it. If I believed Mendoza was the 2nd coming of Tom Brady, I would say so. I haven’t seen it, therefore I'm not going to say it.

When I see him play the way you describe him, I'll say it.

What I've seen from him at Cal & Indiana is an average QB.

No one was beating the table harder for us to go get D'Angelo Ponds last year from the Portal than me. Same with Chauncey Bowens.

Who was one of the first people who ever posted on Issac Brown?

I guess none of that counts though because I just hate South FL so much.

This is the disconnect, IMO. Nobody is calling Mendoza the second coming of Tom Brady. But there's a lot of space between Tom Brady and an average college QB.

The hype on Mendoza isn't coming from local people. It's coming from everyone else. And it's because he's a really good college player and a legitimate pro prospect.

But, regardless of that. You want a full breakdown of the film of why I categorize Mendoza the way that I do? Or would rather just stick with hyperbole arguments?

Ya I'd like one

I'm basically in between the two opinions here.

Also I recall you saying we should have just gotten Mendoza instead of waiting on Beck (if that was who we were targeting, this was before we got Beck, and before Mendoza even chose Indiana... but I think after Mensah already picked Duke) - Which I agreed with too... though My reasoning was more financial + injury concerns.

I quite wanted Ponds lol

We had an easy throw to Toney which would have converted a 3rd down late in the game vs FSU, which may have shut the contest down from that point forward, and Beck missed the throw. It was a good call but poor execution on the QB's part. Can't blame this on the coaches. Also, as much as I like him, Beck is a statute.
It’s easy to say it was an easy throw when they were out of rhythm. First they shut down the pass game for an entire quarter. It’s hard to ask a QB to suddenly get hot again. And on that play Toney was tripped by the OL and that through the timing off. Again, out of rhythm. It’s one thing to run clock. But there are other ways to do it then go turtle mode.

I disagree on Beck. He is actually above average mobility. See Georgia Tech game last year and USF game this year. He can run when he wants to. It seems we understand our season is screwed without him. So we are taking no chances with him right now. Several times against FSU he could have pulled in the read option and got 10. But it’s evident he was told not to.

Tua Tagavailoa was the 5th pick in the draft...

Hey Phins fans, do you guys think Tua plays anything like a top 5 pick?
Well to be fair, your team has a two time MVP that you want to get rid of and they’ve looked spectacular without him. So to each their own I suppose
