CJ Bailey needs to come home

Why do y'all keep doing this? It wasn't Judd or him. They weren't even in the same conversation. Judd was a take simply for numbers purposes and had a minimal nil or a commitment to him. CJ wanted promises made to him and he also wanted a very competitive nil. The Jeremiah line is just as tiresome cause he was committed to nc state all along. Guess where Jeremiah didn't even give a glimpse towards... That would be nc state. Is it only a factor when it relates to us and no one else? Not gonna get back into Jeremiah but this CJ bailey conversation makes little sense. He's not good enough and never has been for his demands. That's all it is. Only way he ever ends up back here is if he drops all his demands and gets realistic.

I mean a stud QB like Ward/Beck would be "okay" with a competition in the sense that there is no chance they'd lose it....

If Beck gets back to being a 1st rounder and/or we have great success by making the CFP and making a title run, it'd be idiotic not to continue to go for Gold in the Portal. There are several players that we could all name that if they came available would be OBVIOUS takes.

We can prioritize HS for everything, but QB idgaf you go for the best player that has the highest likelihood of hitting, period. If Nickel/Coleman are the truth they'll prove it on the field and win the job for the following season. We should know by the end of this season if Nickel is going to be ready to potentially take the reigns next year or not. If not you don't go into next season just relying on hope. No shot imo. Especially not after back to back Ward and Beck if hes legit all year. We would be destination #1 for any Qb.

Edit: having said ALL that, that’s not Bailey lol. Bailey would have expectation of a full competition. I’m more talking if like Josh Hoover entered the portal…

My first thought is they should know from practice whether any of the QB room is ready to be QB1 but we have seen even good OCs not really know whether they have a dude at QB until he plays real games.

I agree with the idea that this guy isn't so good that he warrants Beck $ and a starting job promise but I just keep thinking about the bust rate and if the choice is just this unproven room or Bailey then the chances of any first time starter being as productive as Bailey are not great, so one of these young guys better be wowing people in practice if coaches ride with them and decline to take proven production.

I never understood the whole “Jeremiah” thing. There was no evidence it made one bit of difference.

The bar here is much higher now than this guy.

To me he's proven he can play at the P4 level, which is pretty valuable.

It's the same boat as Mendoza - if you miss out on every other target and you don't just want to hand the reigns over to Judd or Luke then yeah, you give Bailey a call.

He's not someone you promise the earth to like Ward and Beck though. He'll tick you over.

The TV guys were joking that CJ Bailey was the 2nd highest paid guy on the whole team, behind only Dave Doern the coach

Last year, there were three quarterbacks I pushed for: John Mateer, Fernando Mendoza and Carson Beck.

Everybody was pretty unanimous on Mateer. That was an easy one.

When I suggested Mendoza, people said he was another Emory and a token Cuban. Since then, a lot of non-Cubans are projecting him as a high NFL draft pick.

I first mentioned Beck on the show the day he got the brace surgery (and not Tommy John). Most people were disgusted and even laughed sarcastically. Now we’ve seen what he can do.

Let’s see how this conversation looks in a couple months. Bailey still has to play real teams on his schedule and continue his trajectory. But I’ve seen very little actual criticism of his skillset and a lot of instinctive backlash for no reason.

TrumpyCane's client is a Cal booster, same one that said Mendoza was going to Indiana once he entered the portal, he said they're already getting funds to keep him around
 
I dont see us going into next year with a non proven guy at QB, especially if we dont see Luke play at all this year.

Depends on how the year goes and how the staff feels about Luke.

What if we win the natty this year? I might be inclined to take some lumps with Luke next year, provided the staff really does believe he can develop into a top-end starter with some experience.
