Unless the supply of good transfer QBs dries up (The way there is barely even 1 elite outside WR or DT in the portal per year now) I don't care about HS QBs much because QB hit rate is very low and rolling dice on one or two elite 11 guys is never gonna be better odds than using 100 other programs as a farm system and live training environment for your QB hiring process. We should always be recruiting guys out of HS, but it also makes sense to bring in proven commodities.
For example, Lincoln Riley hit homeruns with the transfer QBs, then the offense took a step back with Spencer Rattler, who was a 5-star prospect.
I want to do both ideally but I don't want to sacrifice getting proven QBs in order to improve the recruiting pitch to HS guys, Mario keeps the trenches stacked so any year with a NFL prospect QB should be a legit tier 1 title contender title shot year (Like this year with Beck and the way it should have been last year).
I also am just less confident in ever winning another title with a mediocre game manager so to me if you lock in a mid QB you are locking in a ceiling below national championship with a roster that is probably otherwise good enough to compete.
