CHASESMITH 6th Year? Rumors of return?

Strongly disagree. Our defense will take a step, or two, back.

in terms of sack production- yes. Overall I think the defense will be equally as effective. More experienced defense with a better interior DL. And lots of depth and talent at DB. Better coverage in the secondary should lead to more coverage sacks. You should see an improvement against teams with offenses like Louisville and Ole ****, who dealt with the DE pressure by quick throws. Better DB play will help with that.

How on ******* earth do we go from TE and LB being the worst starting units on the team this season, to actually potentially downgrading at both ... Smh

Chase Smith is a significantly limited player. Toure is bad in pass coverage.... Lose Bobby and Popo. Add nobody. Wiley still won't get snaps ....

Objectively looking like a terrible game plan. Lb was deep in portal. Could have upgraded massively....

Don’t want Smith taking every snap, but thought he was a solid rotational piece this season. All for older, experienced players & leadership. Long season & need all the depth can find.

Not sure why the negativity . He played well late and during the run.
Because this staff is gonna just start Toure and Chase Smith, since they often just default to age. And they are both probably our worst coverage lbs. Smith was better than I expected but that was still nothing more than average. And I disagree he played his best late.

Toure and Smith being our starting LBs next yr is objectively bad - and undebatably a downgrade from last season.

Portal LB was deep as **** dude....

This would make me feel better about the Popo loss. Need bodies at LB.
I dunno about that (for me)

Losing Wes and Popo hurts when all we’ve done is bring back two LBs that were already here, that have some limitations

LB was already a weak spot I’m not too sure what’s going on with this room. I like Smith for depth and a role player but the overall room is lacking

Need Wiley to be ready

what was our retention price tag? i understand the move ... and i lb's couldn't cover so bad that we made it to the national championship game ... cmon now

Chase will be the back up to Toure. Wiley and Bonner for the starting WILL spot and they both will play a lot next season. Everything is going to be ok.

Our LBs sucked in coverage idk what you think you're talking about lol. Wes was okay last yr and this yr in that area, but was terrible tackling.

So because we made the natty it means our KBs weren't the weak link?

Answer these questions:
1. What was the worst unit of our defense last yr
2. Is going from starter Toure and Wes to Toure and Chase an upgrade or downgrade?
3. Was there ample players in the portal at LB that could have SIGNIFICANTLY improved the room?
4. What evidence do you have that Wiley/Bobner/Pruitt/etc will actually get enough playing time to hopefully raise the ceiling of this unit?

Because callinative is the curt cignetti of the board. Google it
Just funny that when we have our clear worst unit of defense that objectively downgrades I'm hating lmao.

You know maybe when everyone was calling me a slurped or only seeing things through O+G glasses, and when I "hate" on certain things.. maybe I'm just the one who sees things clearly and takes pretty grounded stances.

TE and LB were objectively bad units for us this yr. The fact we made the Natty doesn't change that. And we have done literally zero to improve those rooms. And the LB room got worse by losing Wes and Popo, both of whom are better players than Chase Smith. TE, well I'm of opinion not having Bauman forces staff to make decisions that make the offense better, so...

Staff defaults to age?

Buddy you smoking that good Cali **** this morning lol. What in the flying smoking **** are you smoking rn?

Yeah I 100% doubt that. I'd bet heavily that Toure and Chase Smith start.
Further betting next yr on two Extremely often injured LBs is even more of a questionable call...

Idk how anyone can just look at this LB room and come away believing it'll perform better than last season.

I'll just keep saying that this staff BETTER have Wiley developed and a starter sooner than later. They couldn't develop Bobby. They will never play Pruitt. We will see about Bonner. But we already know what we have in Toure and Chase. Both are bad in coverage. Toure is a great run defender and solid as a blitzer. Chase Smith is just kinda average and okay if just a ST + low rotation player imo
