CHASESMITH 6th Year? Rumors of return?

Our LBs sucked in coverage idk what you think you're talking about lol. Wes was okay last yr and this yr in that area, but was terrible tackling.

So because we made the natty it means our KBs weren't the weak link?

Answer these questions:
1. What was the worst unit of our defense last yr
2. Is going from starter Toure and Wes to Toure and Chase an upgrade or downgrade?
3. Was there ample players in the portal at LB that could have SIGNIFICANTLY improved the room?
4. What evidence do you have that Wiley/Bobner/Pruitt/etc will actually get enough playing time to hopefully raise the ceiling of this unit?
i'm not suggesting our linebackers are good in coverage, i AM suggesting that they were good enough for us to make the national championship game

we'd love to upgrade every position, but i'm sure retaining our roster was expensive

what evidence did we have the scott and thomas would raise our ceiling? i believe in the coaching

Yeah dude we also had Literally 2 of the 3 best edges in the country and the best nickel in the country. Come on now....

We had VERY GOOD indicators Scott would raise this defense lol the ****? He had an elite season at nickel then a bad season at outside CB for Auburn. Meanwhile we had like the worst DB unit in the county the previous season! Anyone was going to improve the unit!!!

At LB, yes 100%.
Ok with that clarification. I was about to say, dam does buddy know Mario starts like the most young players off all playoff teams.

Maybe its just the young guys aren't ready? Why would he single out that position to default to age?

Bissainthe played as a freshman a lot under Mario I believe.

You guys are unsufferable. Guy has been here for years, injured and didn’t jump ship, works on his gam, played solid this year in a reserve capacity and wants to come back, and now we have little depth left and you will throw him aside for some hypothetical production.

That Was also like his first yr here, and the roster was bad that he did a full tear down of.

And then he got older and when he was playing poorly and was 100% lost would never get benched....once he was entrenched as a starter/role player and is older they don't lose snaps ever.

I feel Wes ultimately was solid last yr and this yr.
But that just further proves my point, how did we UPGRADE at LB unless you're gonna tell me Wiley earns a starting job and is better than Wes? So once again I'll say this staff BETTER have him developed and on starting track. If we go into next season with Chase Smith as a starter or even HEAVY rotational... I just don't see the positive everyone else does. Especially when you look at what was available in portal. There were probably 10 lbs that we could have signed that would have unequivocally upgraded this unit

What is up you weirdos and this obsession with linebackers in pass coverage??

Weirdo 90% of playing linebacker is run support nobody expects a linebacker to be Deion sanders slow *** goofy. How stupid are you that you keep being obsessed with this dumb *** point you’re NOT making goofy.

Nobody gives af about your obsession with having cornerbacks at linebacker shut tf up 🤡

You must actually be a moron if you think 90% is playing run support.

You know almost ever team in CFB passes at like a 55%+ rate right, and we always have 2 lbs on the field...

What an actual moronic thing to say.

Nobody is saying a LB has to guard WRs 1 on 1, the **** you talking about?

Can't use us having little depth as the reason when we CHOSE not to go for anyone in portal and didn't retain the guys like Popo or Bobby who could be a real ceiling raiser along with Wiley.

Yeah I 100% doubt that. I'd bet heavily that Toure and Chase Smith start.
Further betting next yr on two Extremely often injured LBs is even more of a questionable call...

Idk how anyone can just look at this LB room and come away believing it'll perform better than last season.

I'll just keep saying that this staff BETTER have Wiley developed and a starter sooner than later. They couldn't develop Bobby. They will never play Pruitt. We will see about Bonner. But we already know what we have in Toure and Chase. Both are bad in coverage. Toure is a great run defender and solid as a blitzer. Chase Smith is just kinda average and okay if just a ST + low rotation player imo
  • This staff has only been here for 1 season, they didn’t have a chance to develop Bobby
  • Bobby was injured, recovering from a torn ACL
  • Pruitt was moved to Nickel and he played there when Scott was injured
  • Bonner was brought in and paid good in last spring portal to compete with Wes for the starting job, unfortunately he was injured. Also if your theory of “they only play older players” is in fact true, Bonner will be a redshirt junior next season
  • Finally the reason anyone can look to this group of linebackers and think they will be better because they actually got better Toure and Chase in particular played their best during the playoffs. Sounds like the further they are removed from their injuries the better they played.

Im not getting into the LB position next year, bc i agree its a question mark.

I was only commenting on your statement that he defaulted to old guys. Which you later clarified to LB only. Idk, I disagree. I think people always think the younger guys would be better.

Some coaches absolutely default to age and IQ over talent (randy shannon). But I dont think thats Mario judging based on how many young guys played on this team.

I just think the younger guys were simply not ready.

Your last point I simply 100% disagree and think you couldn't be more wrong. Wes is simply better than Chase.

Bonner is a rs JR.. and Chase is? And our most talented LB is what? Hmm. You don't see how that'd all be going the way I'm saying isn't good? Lol

Pruitt was moved.... Because they refused to ever play him at LB.

Mario is the HC. You don't get to say he only had a chance to develop Bobby 1 yr. That's a joke

DC also coaches LBs, right? Pretty decent coach. Will trust his judgement on LB use & rotation.
