I've seen certain posters in other threads talk about wanting Strong to be Golden's successor. But the OC he just demoted (Shawn Watson) was hired to install an up-tempo spread, even though his entire coaching background revolved around running a methodical West Coast pro-style offense. It was considered a bizarre, out-of-nowhere hire and it obviously looks even more harebrained now.

Not to mention that Strong failed to land in-state five-star QB Kyler Murray in a head-to-head battle with Texas A&M, even though the Aggies landed a five-star QB of their own (Kyle Allen) in the previous recruiting cycle. Texas' QB situation is an absolute dumpster fire. Murray could've been the uncontested Day 1 starter there. That miss is likely going to cost Strong his job in the not-so-distant future because of putrid QB play from Swoopes.

Strong hiring Watson as his OC in the first place combined with his inability to land Murray raise huge red flags. Without Teddy and Parker, he's showing he has no clue how to coach or recruit offense.

I still don't know what to think of Strong as an HC especially on offense. Once Bridgewater came and matured, he did amazing things (Heisman). Was it because of Strong? Was it because of Bridgewater? Was it a combination of the two? Having a special player (Bridgewater) can really make it easy for a coach with flaws.

I am not sold on Strong unless he can do it again. If he does do it again, we're not getting him as Texas will keep him. If he peaks at 8-9 wins at Texas, do you want him at UM?

Agree. I think he would do great at Miami but if he can't right the ship at Texas it would make it a much more risky hire if we pick him up. I think Miami is a better for him than is Texas.

I truly have no answer for that. Just a gut feeling that he would succeed here. Maybe he knows the south Florida landscape better? Not sure but he's got a very good eye for talent and develops his players very well. It's hard for me to believe his time at UL was a fluke.

It is what it is. Blessed by HEISMAN talent, possibly exposed without it.

This wouldn't be the first time this happened either. There are a few other coaches as well to watch.

I'm with you. The Bridgewater situation was unique, too, in that Strong was able to land him a year into his tenure at Louisville in late December 2010 because of the coaching change at Miami. They were very fortunate to land a talent of his caliber that late in the process.

If Strong managed to win the recruiting battle for Kyler Murray, it would've gotten UT fans, boosters, etc. off his back and created a slightly more patient atmosphere. But now? All **** will break loose if they continue to get curbstomped like this.

Take charlie strong at defensive cordinator. Hes not even ranked top 40 in the nation in this years recruiting class and thats unheard of at texas

Hes 7th in recruiting texas behind the likes of texas tech, houston and SMU this year

The Bridgewater situation was unique, too, in that Strong was able to land him a year into his tenure at Louisville in late December 2010 because of the coaching change at Miami.

It wasn't just the coaching change at Miami. Strong was cognizant enough to see Teddy B. was a legit QB prospect, while the likes of Muschamp tried that man for a WR.

Tough to win big w/out a good qb. FSU before Winston, LSU, UF had stars but looked like trash due to QB play just like Texas. We on the other hand were terrible WITH a solid qb.

worked out great last year. 1/3 of his college career gone. 6-7.

That Murray kid is a stud. He is an A&M legacy so it was always and up hill battle but near signing day I thought Texas was gonna snag him cause his dad didn't like how Sumlin was letting his players do what they wanted off the field. Like you stated earlier though TCU and Baylor are getting the talent that Texas used too get.
