Chad Thomas tidbit

Is it true that Mario Cristobal was in Miami last week recruiting and talking major **** about UM?

Can't say for sure. I heard the same rumors, though.

Gotta imagine he is feeling a lot of pressure after the bowl game and his failure to land anyone down here.

Buddy is a big time Bama fan. He said that the locals are not too happy with Cristobal.

He should be on the field from day 1. While not in the same position as AQM coming in (meaning we're not as desperate for his skill set), he's more talented and versatile. If we're going to run the world's most predictable stunts/games by placing a DE inside on 3rd and long, it might as well be Chad.

Those make me livid

Really don't understand why they don't allow guys to simply rush the passer utilizing the techniques they are supposed to be teaching at practice.

Muhammad ran longer distances on those stunts than Steve Prefontaine.

AQM was stunting from the sideline against Wake and their 37 ft. splits. No D just needed them to EXECUTE better, c'mon guys. It is that simple.

Execution is one thing, we also need players that can beat the man across from him every single time. Who on our defense last year do you double team or stay away from? One DE that murders a tackle or one DT that needs two people to block him opens up someone to make plays. If you can have two, forget about it. Or one CB that locks some one up, then the safeties can help inside.

I went to school same time as Mario. There is NO WAY I could recruit against my school... couldn't do it. There will be alot of apologists saying he's doing his job, but I have NO respect for Mario. None.

would you do so for $500,000 a year? you sure?

Per an Alabama team source, Nick Saban became enamored with Chad Thomas over the weekend. He was blown away by Chad's size and charisma, and told his staff that he was their #1 priority for the last few days. Mario and others made a major push but it wasn't enough.

After seeing him at the press conference, it's easy to see why Saban became obsessed. Dude is like the football version of Cameron Diaz in There's Something About Mary. (No homo...I think).

****, Danny.

Speaking of Bama, Ed Stinson might be another comparison for Thomas.

you shut your ***** mouth...

Ed Stinson be wifing them shones.............

dude int close to the talent level of chad...he was a jag in hs in dade.

I don't follow recruiting closely. But in the case of Chad Thomas, it's not necessary. One look at the tape of his one-on-one drills was plenty. Great agility and burst. Not too tall like Dion Jordan of the Dolphins and a more naturally competitive player.

IMO, for the college game he needs to be a 260 pound 4-3 defensive end or 245 pound 3-4 outside linebacker.

Chad aint no 3-4 de. Golden wants his 3-4 de 285+ like hamilton, kamula and chickillo will be at that weight next year. Chad is 240 now with still a long lean frame and i dont see justin tuck. Chad is similar to ware, aldon smith, and jason taylor tall lean pass rushers who can play the run and athletic enough to drop in coverage once in a while.

Exactly. I get the feeling that Chad won't have his hand in the dirt very much at all.

Heard on TV earlier they wanted to get him up to 260-270.

DT

260-270 is about the same size as Aldon Smith.

Rush end

Aldon Smith is not 265 pounds. No way. Looks more like 250, max.

Chad Thomas will likely be the WOLB in this system. It would be a criminal waste of skill to waste his time repping 2-gap DL concepts.

I'd love it if he were used like Chris Clemons/Brent Avril. Unfortunately our 3-4/4-3 hybrid isn't really an under front base.

I doubt he ends up playing WOLB for us. He's going to end up a big man and we have too many other hybrids who will need to play in that role for them to be on the field - McCord, AQM, Mike Smith, D.Jackson, McCray, maybe even Trent Harris. I think Chad ends up bigger than all those guys, and not more than 1-2 of those guys at most will develop into more traditional LB's imo. That's a big transition. They'll need to be in a hybrid passrusher role to contribute where Chad will be able to bring back some speed and athleticism to the DE role in our defense. JMO.
