The sport will not die, in fact, it’ll become bigger. But the soul will continue to wither, the only vestige will be more on campus games.

Depth is going to be the biggest issue of the day, portal additions on the second line will matter as much as the first, if you want to win it all. The first and second round games are going to be bloodbaths.

You’re now playing an NFL season, your team has to be prepared for it or you won’t last.
 
At some poiint, the notion that this is an amateur sport is moot

I know they're paid now but a longer season, injury risk, also drives up NIL value

If they're making the season even longe rnow, the next logical step is some legal or union process and a cap on rosters
 
Should have never expanded past four. Shame on everyone who ever pushed expansion. They opened the door to kill the best regular season in sports.

The conferences are the villains. You can’t have a unified sport with self-interested conferences. Every problem in the sport flows from that structural flaw

Hats off to OP for including the $EC commentary in his post. First thing that popped in my heads (and obviously everyone else's) when I saw this nonsense.

Why not copy the NCAA hoops tourney and make it 68 teams? Do some play in games on Thursday night....winnes play on the following Saturday?

Personally i love it as well. You really wanna be in that top 8 though.

I do understand the people that wanna it kept at 4, which i originally did however obviously glad it expanded to 12.
 
I don’t think it should be more than 16 teams max, but 24 teams isn’t ACTUALLY the problem. Conference construction is.

There are 138 eligible teams in college football. In the NIL era, a larger playoff makes sense if you want MORE meaningful regular season games.

Don’t get mad at the playoff format. Get mad at what the TV rights deals have allowed 2 conferences to do to the sport in order to gerrymander how that playoff will be selected.
