CFP moving to 24 teams

I don’t really understand the downside of this especially in the NIL era?
Our ‘24 team would have been in even if our defense sucked ***. You have more leeway in the regular season to actually schedule some fun big matchups.
The bracket would most certainly create some entertaining games and matchups.
Does this hurt our chances of making it or increase it on a yearly basis?
What is the downside? Does this make it harder or impossible to get into the Big 10 or SeC?
Trying to figure out why so many people are against it.
People are using flawed logic because of nostalgia and emotional reason to holding onto the past. People say the regular season doesn’t count in old format 95% of the teams were eliminated from playoff contention by the second week of October.

The sport will not die, in fact, it’ll become bigger. But the soul will continue to wither, the only vestige will be more on campus games.

Depth is going to be the biggest issue of the day, portal additions on the second line will matter as much as the first, if you want to win it all. The first and second round games are going to be bloodbaths.

You’re now playing an NFL season, your team has to be prepared for it or you won’t last.
I’m not in favor of it but I think a lot of drama over little. I would have preferred 16 but I think there is overreaction. Better playoff gsmes than ****** bowls getting opted out of

I never once said oh hoops tournament now sucks because it went to 64 and then 68

24 out of 138 is still way less percent of any other pro sport or most every Collwge sport.

Not one time personally during Alabama Georgia did I think oh who cares both in

Yes maybe some 8 seeding teams won’t be as big but it’s gonna make a ton of other games meaningful and everyone else will still w trying to get as highest rank and seeding as possible plus the bye. You don’t want to be 9.

lol they are giving us what our greedy CFB fans want. More games, more access via coverage with NIL opportunities, the game has never been more popular.

We are going to watch all of it!

We are all the masochists running the machine.

Nobody cared about hoops going to 68 teams because the regular season already sucked. They may as well go to 200.

11 p4 schools didn’t have a p4 ooc opponent scheduled for 2027. Now, it’s required. That’s 6+ games we’re going to get that we wouldn’t have, and they’ve eliminated meaningless conference championship games on top of that. Win-Win.

Hoping the final deal bans FCS matchups however haven’t seen anything on that just yet.

We are spending 40M+ on our roster and will not have to be as concerned about the committee taking an SEC team over us in the situation we were in the last 2 years. The expansion gives us more wiggle room and when you are paying that much coin for a roster and program improvements why wouldn’t we want a shot at the end of the season even if we were like the 2024 and defense was complete dog ****?
Does this hurt us bolting to another conference or is that even matter now?

Reading between the tea leaves here...

Does it seem that the powers that be (Disney, Fox Sports, the SEC, & the Big Ten) are realizing their bull**** bill has no shot of getting passed so they're going into Plan B of rigging the post season in their favor?

This seems like a great way to try to keep the Canes in the ACC. Conference champ gets an automatic bid. Play in the weakest P4 conference and get a free pass into the playoff each season. But the poison pill will come when 11-1 Miami wins the ACC and is given the #9 seed, ensuring they do not get a first round bye.

If the Canes stay in the ACC, they need a rider put into this deal stating that the P4 conference champs are guaranteed at least a top 8 seeding.

Death of the best regular season in sports. Sad day for college football as we know it.
I agree. 24 teams is just way too many. Regular season is pretty much irrelevant now, and I don’t see how they keep conference championship games. What would be the point of playing that game?

24 teams is perfect and I love it. Teams like Miami who were hit with the injury bug would not be eliminated from the playoffs by early October if we played a tougher schedule

The reality is now we will get a true champion. Who wants to continue with the unfair biased selection committee.
LMFAO if you think this helps Miami or anyone outside of the SEC and B1G in any way, shape or form. ACC will likely STILL get ONE bid, same with Big XII and Pac 12. This will be 6-8 teams from both the SEC and B1G, while the rest of us fight for the remains.

I’m not in favor of it going to 24 but I really don’t know that the doom and gloom is what really will happen so I’m just not stressing about it which is a different type of reaction Relative to the outrage it’s going on because I remember everyone saying the regular season was gonna suck when we went from 4 to 12 and I haven’t experienced one moment of thinking that, but I get why people differ. I would’ve been fine as they had stayed at 12 or a car to 16 so don’t confuse my thinking it’s not gonna have the dire consequences that something for being an advocate for it because I was not.

Imo If I were CFB Commish and we had to do 24 team playoff:

MOST IMPORTANT - A Completely reset Conference Realignment. First of all Football (and maybe Mens Basketball) and the rest of NCAA sports should be entirely separate as to the realignment process, which All non Football/Basketball sports should HEAVILY go back towards regionality. One big issue with a 24 team playoff is that it weakens the regular season which is the most important thing in CFB. In order to strengthen the regular season back, you have to have games that mean something to the fans. There needs to be 2 conferences with regionalized divisions totaling 64-72 teams.

- Strict 5 for 5 eligibility
- 1 Transfer without sitting a year in first 4 years. You gain a 2nd transfer opportunity entering 5th year (whether or not technically a grad student). Any additional transfer means you have to sit a year.
- Max contract length 2 years, with clear, standardized, legally binding fees to break the contract - for both sides - that lean toward protecting the player. Expected pay to the player for each active year, the money must be placed in escrow upon the players first practice for the new season (so doesn't require unexpected to reach incentives).

- Season start moves fully to week 0.
- 12 regular season games. Must play minimum 10 "P4" teams in order to be eligible for CFP, with exception of G5 at-large if they qualify. No "non-P4" games allowed after week 4. Each team must have 2 byes.
- 5 weeks of playoffs. Eliminate Conference Champ games, the conf champ is determined by best win% and tie breakers.
- Eliminate end of season bowl games. If the bowl sponsors still want to be involved, they can "sponsor" one of the early season non-conference P4 game.
- Create a Separate G5 12-16 team playoff. However, any team in the G5 can choose to participate in the CFP if they can get an at-large spot (stricter standards than just top 24. Should maybe be undefeated and/or require top 16 ranking at end of regular season for the G5 team to qualify for CFP).
- 2 CFP Conferences - SEC and B1G or whatever new names they choose. Each conference gets 4 Playoff Byes = 8 total CFP Byes.
- First round of playoffs is 16 At-large teams in the "Play-in" game. Each conference gets 8, but lowest ranked could be replaced by a G5 representative if they qualify and choose to enter. Each Conference is responsible for making their schedule and choosing how many divisions they have and how they award the Auto-Byes and play-in seeding. Easiest is obviously 4 divisions per conference, but the priority is protecting regionalization and rivalries not each division having the same amount of programs. For instance the New B1G is much more naturally a 3 division conference, whereas the SEC can be a 4 division conference easily. Ideally though you want the conferences to have the same amount of programs each or at least +/-2.

For Example this is what a 70 team CFP League could look like: And obviously you could drop whichever you think are the weakest teams and those become G5 teams....
