CFP moving to 24 teams

Reading between the tea leaves here...

Does it seem that the powers that be (Disney, Fox Sports, the SEC, & the Big Ten) are realizing their bull**** bill has no shot of getting passed so they're going into Plan B of rigging the post season in their favor?

This seems like a great way to try to keep the Canes in the ACC. Conference champ gets an automatic bid. Play in the weakest P4 conference and get a free pass into the playoff each season. But the poison pill will come when 11-1 Miami wins the ACC and is given the #9 seed, ensuring they do not get a first round bye.

If the Canes stay in the ACC, they need a rider put into this deal stating that the P4 conference champs are guaranteed at least a top 8 seeding.
Nah this expansion was planned for a longtime now.

Fox Sports wanted to bid on these games (now or in the future; contact ends after 2031). Fox still wants the gang of 4 in the B1G. Disney knows the only way they can keep the ACC together is the bill passing or Disney increasing the payout to the acc gang of 4.

No 11-1 Miami team will get the 9th seed. In 2024, we were ranked 6th by the committee at 10-1. We’re in a whole different stratosphere as a proven brand/product now too.

Three things are true:

1) Watching a playoff game with stakes is better than watching two teams play their 2nd stringers in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.

2) This significantly devalues the regular season, which sucks. The truth is that the best part of college football is that having a good or bad game on Saturday changes your ENTIRE season when there is only 12 games. Part of that magic will be lost as more 9-3, and even 8-4 teams will get in.

3) Miami better win the f*ckin ACC if this year is the last chance they will ever have.

Wayment. I'm with you on the conferences, but there's no way in heII I'm giving E$PN a break. They're the real villains. You wanna point back to the conferences using E$PN as the henchmen, that's fine, but E$PN is not getting a pass. No way, no how.
Right... Conferences, Schools and Media ... can't let any of them off the hook with the amount of money flying around here.

Welp this is officially turning into the NBA with guys resting and load management going to be going on all over. Gonna have a ton of meaningless games now. Going to have 8-4 and 7-5 teams being rewarded. Plus Imagine having 5 weeks of playoff games, way too dam long

Considering there’s 16 sec teams. I imagine 16 spots are reserved for them. 4 for Big 10, One for ND, one for ACC, Big 12, then one random

They're beating the **** out of these kids with the extended season.
I said the same thing imagine playing 12 regular season games and then have to play 5 straight games for example vs USC, texas a&m, Ohio state, Ole miss, Indiana. You better win cause you'll be beat up and broken team after that

Will absolutely be a lot of 3-loss teams in the playoffs. Multiple 4-loss teams? Doubtful.

There wouldn’t have been conference championship games last year to change the rankings if there were 24 teams, however 4-loss Iowa wouldn’t have gotten in over 11-1 north Texas, 9-2 (soon to be) 10-2 Navy, or 11-1 JMU.

I’m not in favor of it going to 24 but I really don’t know that the doom and gloom is what really will happen so I’m just not stressing about it which is a different type of reaction Relative to the outrage it’s going on because I remember everyone saying the regular season was gonna suck when we went from 4 to 12 and I haven’t experienced one moment of thinking that, but I get why people differ. I would’ve been fine as they had stayed at 12 or a car to 16 so don’t confuse my thinking it’s not gonna have the dire consequences that something for being an advocate for it because I was not.
bc the biggest draw about CFB was that the reg season were the playoffs. every game mattered. one week can end your season. in a 24 team playoff, the stakes are gone

Boooo, as long as we’re in the ACC at stay at even 80% of what we are, it’s almost inconceivable that we could lose 4 games, which is basically what we’d have to do to drop out of the top 24. All this does is even further strip out meaning from the regular season. SMU in all honesty should’ve been the end of our season last year and we deserved it, but we got saved by the 12 team format. Now you want to double it, regular season officially has no meaning. Might as well have the whole year be a March madness bracket, because nothing before the playoffs matter.

Who cares about the big matchup if they schedule it?

Texas and Ohio State play week one, whats to lose? If they both implode and end up not being a top 24 team down the line? Game loses an enormous amount of juice if seeding is the only thing at stake
I mean yea for example if texas and Ohio state plays, how good of a game that will be tho if a team goes up 14 pts the other team will just pack it in and relax knowing they could lose 3 to 4 games and still be in. Big games will have far less intensity knowing the consequences are minimal

That could’ve happened already under this system. It could happen this year technically.

The chances of 2 teams playing 17 games is next to zero. The chances of 1 team playing 17 games are pretty small however it could happen. It could happen this year too!

That’s literally just one extra game tho. . . . It could’ve happened w/ a 12-team playoff if JMU/Tulane would’ve kept winning games to meet each other in the championship. Each team played 13 games before the playoffs started. Alabama would’ve played 17 games if they made it the natty as well.

Especially when you consider you, me and the rest of the fans pay for it all.

If they expand to 24 teams they might as well call it the SEC Invitational College Football Playoffs. Regular season wont really matter that much. The most important metric will be where a team starts the season ranked, and we all know SEC teams start ranked highly for no reason, and they dont drop much for losing to other SEC teams.
