Wasn't UM's defense ranked 13th or so in the nation last year?
I made a thread about this a while back, but you are correct. The TOTAL DEFENSE stat, which is one of the most misleading stats in football, was top 15; however, if you look at individual stats, such as 3rd down efficiency, 4th down defense, T.O.P, TO ratios, sacks, qb pressures, penalties....we were in the bottom 3rd in the NCAA once again.
The total defense is based upon points given up and total yards per game. The total ypg was misleading b/c we often played on our side of the field since our offense couldn't sustain drives or convert 3rd downs; therefore, the opposition didn't have to drive 80 yrds to score, the only had to drive 60-65 yrds. Also, the strength of schedule diminished from a pre-season top 20 schedule to a in-season top 60 schedule...so the level of competition was not that great, yet we went 6-7.
That's how Golden tries to deceive us, by concentrating on one positive to justify his scheme, but when you break it down, it was just as flawed as last year, if not worst since we couldn't get home to the QB or create TOs.
"We've changed so much from year to year . . . "
from "We need to maintain continuity . . . "
Golden is all over the map.

You typically see this kind of contradiction when a dumbass tries to sound smart ... but then cant keep track of something he said 10 minutes ago.
He's built this *** *** / smart guy image ... but he's legitimately a moron.
Why even use the cowboys and Seahawks? If you're going to tell tales, go all out, "next year we're going to run the '99 rams offense, and the 2000 Ravens defense... Only better"
I'm gonna pattern my ***** after John Holmes'.
I never seen a Seattle Dline player 30 yards down the field trying to defend a slot wr. GTFOH Golden..
You mean the same Romo that has the best 4th quarter QB rating in the NFL the last 5 years!great, just want we need. Kaaya making decisions in the 4th quarter like Romo.
Seahawks my *** lol
this is getting pathetic. hopefully, he proves me wrong.

Seahawks run an under front we used to run an over front... Different design. Yes they flyyy around but they are asked to do different things. Front seven had different responsibilities.
Under front can line up and look almost identical to an odd front.
Your SDE is usually bigger because he is asked to 2 gap because your SAM does cover but lines up to set the edge.
So the SDE can be LIKE a 3rd DT or a true end play to play. Your SAM has to be quick to cover man or zone but strong to set edges. Regardless of 2 or 3 point stance. Hybrid types.
Because 5 are usually on the LOS it can transition to 34 with Sam and Will like 2 ILBs. That's where Golden gets too complicated trying to switch back and forth.
The seahawks base shell is 1/3 . meaning a deep safety either man (1) or zone (3) which can look identical. The Bucs used 2/4 with the same front.
I can see where he TRIED to emulate the Hawks. Al relies on zone too much which is made worse with poor pre snap alignment and slow adjustments.
The old canes in the 43 Over was your ends played outside the tackles/TEs ALWAYS. your LBS played the interior gaps EXCLUSIVELY against the run. A true 1 gap responsibility. The 3 technique played toward the strong side as opposed to weak (under front).
Coverage shells are interchangeable.
The over front is more plug and play where as the under is more fickle and requires more specialists ( for lack of a better term) or versatile players. So the under takes longer to get clicking. It took my Bucs around 4 years to get running consistently at a high level. It took the Hawks about 3 or 4 to get to this level.
It took him too long to adjust IF he even really is. That is his biggest indictment here. If he made these supposed changes 2 years ago we start landing more impact DTs...
Weaknesses of the Under front:
1. You need FOUR good defensive backs.
2. Your SAM/SOLB has to be good enough to both play the run (& TE), & drop off to cover.
3. Hard to get pressure when ball on hash to wide side.
Why do you say this? Not that I disagree, just wondering why.
4. Not great vs. play action or run outside to strong (TE) side.
Are you saying this because of the SOLB alignment? (lined-up in the TE's face)

stopped reading after "More globally, we are going to take a couple more visits in terms of a franchise or organization culturally."
LMAO wtf does that even mean?
“We’ve changed so much year to year, every year in terms of who we are and how we operate,” Golden said. “Every year it’s been different.”
Unreal.

please ... you're being an energy vampire
