Canes playing elsewhere

Arkansas just took Nbr 1 Auburn to OT.

They did have a 12 point lead, but blew it with Lykes 1 for 7 and QUOTE " when you take a contested ill-advised shot like that, your teammates cant get back after such a bad shot". At the 10 minute mark Arkansas coach had seen enough and took Chris out for the rest of the game.

Will be interesting to see if he plays in the OT< and who wins this.

Auburn leads the nation in blocking 22% of the opponents' shots, wow! Nice to be TALL (and agile).

UPD: 4 1/2 into the 5-minute OT Arkansas was up by 3 and put Chris in for first time. He got fouled, and then nicely went 2 for 2 at the line "redeeming himself for missing the critical FT against Vanderbilt" (per the announcer)... 9 in a row Arkansas pulled off the upset and will return to the rankings for sure.

AND the full house of 21,000 Razorbacks went understandably HOG-wild:

He's wasting his final year on a 12-10 Ole Miss team. He wasn't a great player, but he would've filled a huge void on this roster.
What prevented Brooks from being more effective for us last year? I know he came on some at the end of the season but ... he was pretty mediocre before that. Not at all what I think most of us had hoped for.

Memphis has been so-so this season after huge expectations.... and Timberlake plays off the bench, seemingly less and less. Only was in for 6 minutes tonight, zero points 2 turnovers.

Memphis did upset nbr 6 Houston by 10 though, and at 14-8 could be dancing in March. no thanks to the Big ex-Cane Earl though, 5 ppg in 19 games 20 minutes or so each game (until lately.)

Arkansas 9 game winning streak came to an end by 1 Saturday, losing 68-67 to Alabama. They (barely) remain in CBS Top25, largely on their upset earlier in week of Nbr 1 Auburn.

Chris Lykes has been playing less and less (and less effectively.) He played 17 minutes and was 1 for 8 in the latest near-miss.

Alabama's win helps us of course; they are 22 in NET and up from NR to 23 in CBS-25.

Our win over Wake Forest moved us to ( a Bubbly) 67 (up 5) in NET. Wake Forest is still above us (at 40.)

We are now 42 however in RPI (up 8), right behind Arkansas.

Efficiency weighted rankings are proving to be a joke. We have played a substantially stronger schedule than Wake, beat them head to head twice, have a similar record, and are ranked over 25 spots behind them (also way behind VT and UNC).

Arkansas doing well and should be up there in the tourney talk. After 2 games with no points and few minutes (not sure if was injured) Chris Lykes has been back strong last 2 games for the team which has won 18 of last 20...

Chris was 9 for 16 with 33 points in the last 2 games as a 6th man, though he had more minutes (29 and 26) in each than several starters. And more steals than turnovers. Go Chris.

well, dang me for a jinx. spoke too soon, Tex A&M just crushed Arkansas in SEC final, Chris was 0-4, no assists, and not helpful. Would be interesting if we somehow play Arkansas in March dance contest! Talk about a Square Dance!

Chris Lykes left and had his worse season in college at Arkansas playing least amount of minutes in his career averaging least amount of points.

Earl Timberlake left and had a worse season and played less minutes per game.

Matt Cross averaged less per game at Louisville and played less minutes per game.

Grass isn't always greener

Timberlake averaging a bit less than 5 ppg, with a very average FG% and poor FT shooting. Might be the most overated DeMatha 4 star product in a long while. Most "experts" had him a star in college and his teammate Hunter ****inson a possible bust. Its been more the other way around.

Matt Cross really screwed himself big time.

Chris Lykes is at least on a good team and experiencing some winning success.

Timberlake...uugghhhh

It's not a coincidence that Lykes has been on two good teams in his college career and both were as a bench player.

It's interesting to think about how much better we'd be if he had come back, backed up Charlie Moore and been the 6th man.

Like him as a 6th man for sure. If he's your #1, 2, or 3 option then your team just isn't very good. Not sure the difference he would have made as far as wins or losses this season, we're pretty loaded at guard. Now a quality big added to this current team...

Will be interesting to see what Guards we can get to transfer in this year. Just play pick up game ball and score Can't imagine anyone with ball ability not liking it.

Timberlake's uncle said "It just didn't work out." Will need to sit a year now, unless he asks for and gets a waiver. Turns out he had neck surgery last summer.
