Canes Fans Not From South Florida

How many of you on here are not from South Florida, but were meant to be Canes fans regardless?

Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, surrounded by 60% Gators, 30% Noles and 10% Bulldogs fans, but they never caught my interest or fancy. The Canes had me from the first time I saw them. Some people are just meant to be Canes fans!

Born and raised in Augusta, Georgia. I have family in Miami though. But the reason why I loved Miami because I played DTackle in Middle/High school. My idol, Warren Sapp. I ended up loving the school he played while in college. That was about 1997-98. SO I been bleeding orange and green ever since.

Born and raised in Ocala, Fl. Life long canes fan since 82. Father and his side of the family are from Miami (Kendall)

I'll be honest, the canes weren't necessarily my #1 team growing up in Daytona Beach, but my dad's from south miami and his entire family is all canes. But now that I actually ended up going to school here I'm always going be a diehard.

Born in Montreal, Canada, always been an NCAA football fan (no favorite team growing up) and wanted to study abroad, studied med school at UM starting in 82', moved back to my hometown since then... Growing up, nobody knew what the NCAA even was and right now, it's growing a lot, but a lot of people look me like I'm crazy when I say UM is the greatest college football program in the last 35 years!

From Toronto Ontario area, now in London Ontario. When I was an infant my family went on a trip to south Florida with my late grandfather before he passed away. Bought me a bunch of Miami gear, so kind of a bond that I have with my grandfather that is the Canes.

Born in NJ raised in CT became a Canes fan when I saw them play in 98' as a kid and got even more into them when I learned more about the history of the program. Then went to school there and will forever bleed orange and green.

Northwest Georgia, my mom's side of the family grew up in Miami.

Born/raised in Bloomsburg PA. Saw our game against OU in 1985 and was HOOKED! Love the defense and how they played. I was 9 years old.

My parents and most of my friends are Penn State fans and a few Notre Shame fans. I so wanted to go to the U but couldn't afford it (we were barely middle class), but that didn't stop my love for Miami. I lived in OK (school), TX, Del-a-where?, PA, AZ, FL and currently in Vegas. Always a 'Canes fan, just wish my wife would understand. At least I got her to go to a few games with me when we lived in FL. Now I'm trying to convert my oldest daughter (6).

Born/raised in Plantation, graduated from the U, spent 10+ years in and around Corpus Christi, TX (Port Aransas), moved to Montreal in 2007, then to Kingston, Ontario, in 2011, and will be moving to Suckeye territory soon (Cinci).

Everybody's giving a detailed origin story so here's mine. I was in high school in Jacksonville, Florida when the Canes starting some noise with Kelly at QB. I wanted to go to Miami or Illinois for school but it was too expensive so I gave up on that dream. I got a partial scholarship to a private college in Missouri, then went to grad school at Illinois. A few years ago Miami started offering courses to help with my job here in Japan so I was able to make my dream come true in a way and take those courses. Anyway, never really liked the Gators or Noles. They did nothing to inspire me to be a full-fledged fan. Always followed the Canes from high school but then 1983 happened. Everybody was talking about Nebraska and the awesome team they had. I remember going home to Florida for Christmas break and watching the 1984 Orange Bowl with my dad. Hoping against hope that the Canes could somehow beat the mighty Cornhuskers. The Canes took the lead and we were going nuts. But then the Huskers came back and we dreaded the inevitable. That ending was maybe the most exciting moment of sports I will ever have. It was the Canes first, and they had done it before the Gators and Noles had won one. Lots of good times and not so good times after that, but I've never wavered as a fan yet. Now I'm just hoping against hope for the tennis team to win that national title someday. Hey, if the football team could beat '83 Nebraska...
