Butch Davis to FIU

Just like we did app st. ok?

No, sweetie, that's called a non-conference cupcake game. Old Dominion would be a monumental conference win for FIU.

But, again, as soon as you have to rip UM to defend Butch Davis, you can step away and get your Panther season tickets.

the only sweetie is you here...ole closeted queen. Unless ur name is really Jaromir Jagr, then u would have to be the queenest motha phucka on the whole board. MAN UP AND QUIT NAMING URSELF AFTER ANOTHER MAN. HONEY CHILE.

That made me laugh. If you're going to bail on the subject, at least come up with something funny.

Oh so u mean like how we were oh so happy to beat duke last year...ah I got it

Like I said, when you have to trash UM to defend Butch Davis, there's the door.

It's called REALITY CHECK...for every time you point finger at Butch, there are four fingers pointing back at you. You and all the deniers of our great past at the expense of our so-called great future, a future that is full of ncaa involvement and administration kicking kids out. It's a **** mess.

These Butchbots actually like Butch more than they care about UM. If he ever offers you a purple drink at a rally please have 2.

So the answer was to hire Butch? Now I know you're trolling.

Nick Saban and urban Meyer better watch out bro. They're scared of Butch and his recruiting bro. FIU is gonna be a powerhouse bro

I just see it as being a case of "You can't cross the same river twice."

Has there ever been an instance where a team has rehired someone, only to see awesome results? I really can't think of any off the top of my head.

Bill Snyder at K-State and Chris Ault at Nevada, but those two are the ONLY guys that have shown they could win at those schools. Even then, Kansas State hasn't reached the same success they had in the nineties and early millennium. John Robinson was underwhelming at USC in his second go around, and Johnny Majors was pure garbage at Pitt.

They have a proven coach, on-campus stadium, the Miccosukee IPF, fertile recruiting ground, easy admissions.

They could surpass Miami before Richt's IPF gets fully funded.

He'll do well there relatively speaking, i.e. fixing the colossal f--- up Pete Garcia made when he spearheaded the Ron Turner era.

Butch left here before the job was done, so we assume he would have won the NC in 2001 and probably one or two more before getting a real NFL offer (i.e. ABC, Anywhere But Cleveland). That was our plan anyway, his was different obviously.

All we know of Butch as a HC is that he is an elite evaluator of talent, particularly spotting players that overachieve based on where everyone else has them ranked. Clint Portis is a classic example. Pretty much everyone else had him moving to CB. There are countless others.

His tenure at UNC proved to be similar, though not the same level of elite players; but, he was gone before anyone could see the finished product.

Based on his history, at FIU, I predict similar results. He will identify and recruit players that are being overlooked by the Big 3 in state, or the ones for which there isn't enough room. The problem is this isn't the 1990s, and pretty much every program from big time Power 5 through bottom feeders are doing the same thing, and not just bottom feeding, they're winning some too.

It will be harder this time, but he will still get some kids that overachieve and probably steer a few his way that would escape most of the coaches/recruiters. FIU will improve and make a bowl game or two, but once again, one way or another, he will not be around to show off the finished product.

I predict after an 8-4 type season, he is gone to a Power 5 school before the bowl game. That's Butch.

I'm curious as to why people believe a guy who's already 64 and has NCAA issues will get a Power 5 job.

He'll have FIU doing well eventually but not right away. His tenure at Miami confirms that he can bring a team back but not until he has all his own players in place. (Because hint: he's much better at recruiting than coaching.) By the time he's doing well at FIU he'll be around 67.

It's Butch. He's a self-promoter and a hard worker. With any results at all, and being one job removed from the UNC stuff, he will get someone to take a chance on him. And being in your 60s ain't old anymore for a HC. Heck, Lord Saban's 65.

So, how many 60 year old coaches have been hired by P5 teams over the past 5 years?

And to the bolded part ... Can people please stop using this as an argument in support of Butch Davis?

I'm not really knocking Butch, but he's not close to being Nick Saban. Butch NEVER had his UNC teams finish in the top 25 during his 4 years there ... Saban won a title in his 4th year at LSU. Saban also had a winning record in the Big 10 at Michigan State, while Butch had a losing record in the ACC with UNC.

Saban is an all-time great! May be the best college coach, ever.

Butch Davis is on par with Dennis Erickson. Right place, right time.

I'm looking forward to the 2018 and 2019 games against FIU. By that time, CMR should have things rolling.

Lmfao, He's hasn't coached in 6 years. What was he working on his tan? Dude will be 68 before FIU breaks a .600 winning percentage.
