Brenden Sorsby- The Gambling Addiction

Back in the day art schliter(?) use to come in to my arena daily. I know there is more of this than the public knows. It’s a disease. Gambling on a pro level is being pimped every day. It’s out of control and the integrity of sport has been greatly tarnished.

As a father of a child in recovery, what I have learned about addiction is the biological side is not discussed enough.
Addicts get a dopamine release beyond that which the rest of us experience from the same activity; whether that is a substance, eating or gambling. And then their brains want more and more dopamine to be released. So they keep up the addiction even when they know it is wrong or harmful. After some time of this the brian develops a neural pathway connected to the addictive substance/activity.

Sorsby is clearly an addict. And possibly to more than jsut gambling (but hopefully not). He needs treatment more than he needs to play football because without it, his entire life will be one misstep after another will trying to get the next “hit”.

I hope the sports world gives him the room to make this about his health and not about the sport. That has never happened for Tiger Woods and we see the impact of an untreated addiction on his life. He’s 50 years old and still doing the same stupid sh*t because he never gets real help.

Also huge ties of adhd and addiction but obviously might not have anything to do with this, just in general.

You will likely see a lot more of these stories come out. 40 states legalize, and it’s ridiculously easy for kids under 21 to get on an illegal Sportsbook. Hate to break it to the older people on the board, but majorly of male college athletics will gamble on professional sports. That’s the reality
What do yiu think Pete Rose is doing in his grave right now?

I think other states should adopt the rule the state of Illinois has for college sports betting. Illinois law prohibits betting on individual games involving Illinois-based college teams. I know states like Ohio and Connecticut ban residents from betting on college player props, which could be adopted as well

He should be banned dead ***, cant have someone with an addiction to gambling playing a sport cause the addiction would get worse and he would eventually throw games. Every addiction gets worse it never gets better, you can get the help but him playing a sport he would be around it. Thats like recovering from a drug addiction then coming out and hanging out in a crack house, eventually you will break.

man is betting on balls and strikes. hes def betting on props on his own team. as someone else said, it wont be obvious to us if hes betting on games hes playing in as QB, but i can def see an addict like he claims to be betting on prop stats where he can control the outcome.

I gambled everyday of my life from 16 years old to 34 years old. I was finally able to shake it in fall of 2024. It's brutal to shake off. Prayers for the young man. He has a tough path ahead of him but with Gods help you can overcome anything.
@JHallCanes Not sure whats funny about addiction but I hope nobody you ever love has to deal with it.
