Big Ten already suffering in recruiting: League coach claims prospect told him he plans to go to conference that 'supports football'

1) Don't think it's simple to switch conferences. The Big 10 would likely sue Nebraska if they tried to join the Big 12 even for one season. But these are truly unique times; I would say everything is on the table. And at the moment the NCAA has never appeared to be more impotent
2) As for Big 10 vs Big 12, I hadn't looked it up but it's not surprising. There were reasons that Nebraska and Colorado bolted from the Big 12 to begin with, such as UT not sharing revenue from the Longhorn Network
3) When you speak about a perpetual revenue stream - that stream dwindles to a brook in a multiyear shutdown. It's likely that most if not all Big Ten schools could absorb a one year shutdown and resume operations. What gives me pause and what may be a factor in an attempt by Nebraska to jump ship is the question of how long the shutdown lasts. Nebraska had total expenses of $81M in 2019, versus revenue of $122M. Some of their operating costs go away in a shutdown - no travel costs, no players are getting injured - but much doesn't. Let's say half of the expense remains and the Big Ten shutdown lasts at least two years. Can the University of Nebraska absorb $82M in expenses without television revenue and ticket sales? Maybe. But can they be sure that it comes back in two years? And how does a football team recruit players over such a shutdown? The problem is that there is absolutely no guarantee that the Big Ten or PAC-12 resumes football in 2021, because there are no decided factors that allow for a return.
I know anyone can sue anyone, but does Nebraska have a strong legal case against the big 10 for stopping football in 2020? Breach of contract?

Recruits; we feel ur pain. Here at Miami, we support football. We welcome u all.

You could say the same about Miami. Nebraska has the richest history of any team in the Big 10, and the most championships. They have a huge fanbase. They are a blue blood program, no question. If they defected to the Big 12, that would harm the Big 10 in terms of prestige and money. TV contracts were signed with the expectation that Nebraska would be part of the product. The big 10 minus Nebraska offers diminished value to the TV execs...so you can bet the TV money payout would be adjusted accordingly.
You are wrong on multiple fronts. Ohio State is the marquee program in the conference, no one is a close second. In their last four games the Buckeyes have outscored Nebraska 182-79. Check the last 10 NFL Drafts, you may get my point. Also OSU has 6 NCs (they say 8, I don’t agree), Nebraska has 5, none in this century. For the 100th time Nebraska would LOSE tens of millions of dollars leaving the conference, it is NOT happening. Todays Huskers are Iowa. UM’s recruiting base is superior to Nebraska and with the right coach the Canes can a top 5 program again When Bo Pelini was at Nebraska he told me the only guys they get can’t play at the elite programs. Maybe a guy or 2, but that the people in Lincoln are stuck in time. I would think Bo would know!

Look up the term “recency bias.”

Just because Ohio State had success under Urban Meyer doesn’t mean they’re the Big 10’s “marquee program” now and forever.

I doubt even Gene Smith would agree with your assessment pf Nebraska football. You are just some OSU superfan.

OSU has its own problems to worry about. You’re not getting a season, your QB is either declaring or transferring, and the locker room is ****ed.

No I’m a UM fan and follow college football closely. My cuginas played at UM, one even won a trophy and an award or 6! Dude OSU is the Bama of the Big 10 and quit reading fairy tales on the internet. I have a relative in football ops in Cbus has been accurate for 6 weeks. FYI there is no stronger AD in the country than Gene

You better ball Bowlsby, he seems to agree with me!

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby, asked if there's a scenario where Nebraska or other Big Ten or SEC teams could play against Big 12 teams, texted that's "truly astonishing."

They’ve won 10 of the last 18 league titles. if you want to go back to the 90’s to say they aren’t the marquee program in the big ten In 2020, that’s idiocy.

Again, recency bias.

They had a good run under Urban...but Urban Meyer has that effect. We’ll see how they do going forward.

If I had family at OSU I’d be a fan of both teams. Can’t fault you for that. Didn’t say you weren’t a Canes fan too.

In any case, we’ll see what happens with Nebraska.

how is the last 18 years under 3 different full time head coaches qualify as “recency bias”? If they aren’t The marquee program, who the **** is? love to hear this...

Why does there have to be one marquee program? Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, and Nebraska are all college football blue bloods with huge fanbases and loads of history and tradition.

I’d say they’re about equal.

I ******* despise Ohio's Taint. But in all seriousness, no one in the Televen is even close right now. Frankly, you could say the conference flat out stinks outside of them, because it does.

Nebraska has a very supportive fanbase. But LARGE? Maybe in BMI, not in numbers. They own the state of NE, but that's 2 million people. For reference, that's Broward County.

I’m curious how the prospects in entire state of Nebraska would compare against the prospects in Broward County.

Gino is such a good dude. Don’t know him personally but he was great to my son and I up at BC a few years back. My dude was young, ran away from me and Gino scooped him up. Talked to him for 10-15 minutes. Good dude.

You could make a case Wisco is the second best program right?
