Big Baby to the portal

Buddy's got trex arms and no punch. He's not gonna play interior and now he sees what our model lineman looks like. Buddy knows he's got no future on this team. His best chance is gets his strength numbers significantly up and try to play gaurd at a lower tier school. He's a good kid and it's not personal. But like everyone wants to see, Mario is serious about building this team the right way. His way. Getting rid of these scholarships is what's necessary. Is what it is. @gogeta4 you're absolutely right from a physical stand point he should be playing center. However from the few times I've spoken with him, I just think mentally that's not in the cards. I'd say he's got a long road ahead of him.

Agreed. 1 thing I was say for as much as I joke about Zo evals or whoever is leading the charge of 3 star commits, at least they have the right traits.

I’m remember one of Mario’s first interviews when he came to Miami and he discussed size, traits, body types. It’s clear we aren’t going to be the smallest power 5 school anymore.

Look at the size of OL we have brought in. Massive kids who make our upperclassmen look small.

Bigger CB, much bigger LB. No longer going to be running out 195lb LB like manny did.

It’s embarrassing how small, slow and weak this Miami program got over the last few years.

It takes time to fix all that and I hope Mario does it.

Another crippling blow.

The ship continues to sink.

Not only elite size, but wait till y'all see their testing numbers. To go along with size all of them (even the three stars)have other elite traits that go along with them. Mario and mirabal know exactly what they are looking for. Whether it's elite feet, elite hand placement, elite balance to go along with that size and an elite mentality... Yeah that's what it's gonna take. This is the difference where before on a regular it was brought up how we lacked actual leaders and accountability. We had clicks and not team bonds. Too many dudes who were all about themselves and didn't care beyond their own success. That ain't goin on here no more... People see these three stars and are freaking out. Evals come into play. Check the resume then get back.

I hope he does well wherever he goes, but this guy seemed to be the epitomy of the Manny recruiting days. Top247 kid according to websites, but you could just see that was a frame and kid who may not transfer his skills well to the college game.
he had offers from Florida, Florida state, Georgia, Penn state, lsu, Oregon.

I get this board will take any shot it can at Diaz, but a lot of respectable schools wanted this guy. He dominated on the camp circuit and while at central.

He just didn’t grow and didn’t develop anymore. I wouldnt attribute this a one of Diaz’s many misses he had

I have been very impressed by the level of maturity of the Mario players. Lee. Deen, Colbie. The remaining Manny kids are also mostly impressive. Rivers, Arroyo, Kam. Not everyone is a rocket scientist. But the overal IQ and professionalism is way up. Combine that with the physicality and in most cases demonstrated production and I feel super optimistic.

Long way to go but the vector is steep and in the right direction.

So last season when Purdue played Illinois I had the chance to to meet Dean and I'll simply say that kid really left an impression on me. I spoke with him at the time and we discussed where things were possibly going to head cuz he has a very different mentality than most of those kids you were finding on Purdue or a school even similar to that. But Illinois is a very well coached team from a perspective of the line offensive or defensive side of the ball and that kid did his thing. I can't wait to see what he's going to do with us.

I think mirabal cross trains a lot of guys. Seymore wasn’t a top eight guy and I think backup tackles would get a look inside before he would on this team.

Yeah I know he cross trains (fwiw, a lot of OLCs cross train) but the reality is that Francis and rivers are much better suited to swing inside if needed as opposed to Samson and McCoy who are pure tackles. Imo. Kinsler could be the real wild card for depth.

This is one of the hard parts of being a coach. Unfortunately, you have to move along kids and some are good kids who did nothing wrong but they’re limited and wouldn’t have been recruited here by the current staff.
Good points by both you guys

I’ve said it a few times I have no idea if Mario’s vision and plan leads to championships or not, but I do know he’s going to be able to execute his plan without interruptions or lack of resources

The OL has gone through a dramatic makeover in one season basically

These dudes he has been recruiting are freaks, even the lower ranked ones

That 2021 class is destined to go down as one of the worst in our programs history relative to its ranking/talent
A lot of this had to do with Covid lockdowns. There just wasn’t much in person evaluation that could go on. I think a lot of guys were incorrectly evaluated.

Last year’s class on the OL was unbelievable.

That’s a good point plus evals don’t seem to be the last staffs strong suit but good point it made things harder

It’s not that this class isn’t necessarily contributing either…they’re not even on the roster anymore

That’s just brutal

I really liked Ryan Rodriguez but there was never any real measurements on him. The first time I saw a pic of him on Greentree he looked like a walk on. I knew that was going to be a miss right then.

It was just a tough time because everything was just video. I appreciate that we currently want to look at every guy in person.

Every**** cycle you have those types of guys

I remember Golden trying to do a lot of camps and that was good, but clearly we are giving Mario a lot more resources. We are seeing guys it seems 3-4+ times in person and some of these lower ranked kids we have committed are ones we’ve seen in person a lot

And then even guys like Capers or a few other really highly ranked guys we are passing on after seeing them in person a lot

It’s how it should be anyway

The current standards on size and frame are also way higher.

The new C commit Nino has measured in at 6-3 290 multiple places. If he fails, it won’t be because he isn’t big enough.

Perhaps signs of a unhealthy program finally getting better. When you see guys that are obviously not a good fit for the team and instead of starting them because of their upperclassmen status like previous admins, the guy is softly forced out. I like it and it needs to happen often. Trim the excess fat off the meat.
