Honestly I can’t even remember how long

Popo and Toure side by side looks like they’ve been together for years

Not trying to be too dramatic here but on this rewatch I’ve probably seen 4-5 plays at least that would have gone for HUGE yardage last year

Between this and Justin Scott putting NFL Draft material on his sheet on Sunday the middle of the defense suddenly looks pretty dang good

I’ll try and give some more detailed looks at it but I couldn’t control the excitement

I’m sure I’m missing some negatives here as well but just speaking from a broader perspective it’s a different feel

The PFF grades for Toure run defense were strong I guess he was terrible in coverage though.

Curious when you keep reviewing how Blay looked across the whole game? He has that massive play but I wasn’t watching the DTs as close in the stadium.

Yeah just on the quick watch/rewatch all David Blay concerns about his level of comp should be put to bed

Blay too. He was consistently in the backfield.

I need to rewatch. I didn’t even know Popo played.
He’s #10. I’m a little biased so that whole “you find what you’re looking for” saying might be true. I’ve been wanting to see him in Heathermans defense

I’ve been saying he’s the most naturally gifted LB we have as far as instincts and overall game. Last year felt like the whole defense was thinking too much to me and not just playing. But I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself

He had himself a ballgame

The first thing that I noticed is just the speed. For a LONG time, we've been slow as **** at backer. Even the kids we did have who were pretty good, or at least, serviceable, were not twitchy and fast. Mauigoa, Quarterman, etc. But not that long ago, we watched Ryan Ragone and Corey Flagg running around in those spots. I'm not sure if 1 and 31 hold up the entire season against physical teams, but they sure as **** checked that box in Week 1, and they can both MOVE.

Outside of the busted coverage late in the TE I completely agree.

Last year I would wince when people would say Popo is slow. He’s definitely not slow. It just looked like everyone was lost at times. That’ll make you look slow. LBs were prepared and decisive (for the most part)

Been hoping for this the moment Heatherman was hired

best since shaq/pickney. the fact alderman and bonner didnt even get a snap tells you where the talent level is.

Thanks. I haven't rewatched it, but my initial impression was that Wes had a solid, if not spectacular, game. You?

Going forward am excited to see how Hetherman incorporates Pruitt and Bonner against teams that are pass heavy too.

Popo made two great open-field tackles on Love. Miss those, and Love is still running.
Lucas made a great play running down the TE on Toure's blown coverage. Toure appears to have thought it was zone coverage versus man.
Toure's hit on Carr could have been a game-ender for Carr.
Overall, I liked the speed at which they played and would have liked to see 22 in on those downs when it was clear they were going to pass but Popo did well.

Blay's big play was a complete bust on the ND OL.
Moten was the most consistent DT, IMO.
We really need to get the final four DL on the field more often on clear passing downs. Lightfoot, Blount, Mesidor, and Bain. That OL had no answer for the speed and power.

That group was fun as heck to watch. IIRC, Blount and Mesidor were inside and the other 2 outside and it seemed like they were raising ****.
