Best LB play I’ve seen

I need to print a roster sheet out ..I only recognized a few people on defense from their jersey numbers ..seem like a lot of turnover on defense this year
The constant jersey numbers changes are sooooo annoying. I'm getting old...to the point where I'm entitled to b!cth and moan about simpler things in life, like kids KEEPING THEIR SAME DAMMM NUMBER EACH YEAR!!!

Ma! The Meatloaf! PHVCK!!!

I need to see them play the whole year like this. Our defense against UF last year looked just as good as we just did in Game 1 this year again. When teams see some success against us, I want to see if we can adjust unlike with Guidry. QB draw already looking like it can be annoying...Lets see if it gets cleaned up against USF who will 100% take advantage of it.

Looked much improved especially for game 1. I saw some good communication between LBs countering ND audibles a few times that resulted in a positive play for us. Coverage is still a concern.
Yeah Notre dame to me seemed to try some confusing things up front. Last year they probably run for 400

I’ll have to see more with the drives we gave up the points but in general it was nice to see

Was also thinking this about USF. Last year we blew them out but there were some major defensive concerns that I saw in that one

Literally why I didn’t know Popo played. I couldn’t hear the TV hardly over my wife talking to a friend we had over. I was being chill but I kept trying to Google #s..

Notre Dame used motion multiple times and nobody on our defense got lost.

Immediate 1000% upgrade over last year

QB draw issues were an over reliance on cover four. If you line your two outside backers outside the tackle box, you’re just asking to get gashed right up the middle.

The first thing that I noticed is just the speed. For a LONG time, we've been slow as **** at backer. Even the kids we did have who were pretty good, or at least, serviceable, were not twitchy and fast. Mauigoa, Quarterman, etc. But not that long ago, we watched Ryan Ragone and Corey Flagg running around in those spots. I'm not sure if 1 and 31 hold up the entire season against physical teams, but they sure as **** checked that box in Week 1, and they can both MOVE.
I dont think there has been a make a wish kid sold harder on this board than Flagg becuase he set up cones for the corches. Dude was small and slow and people would with a straight face try to sell him and then also say we gonna beat bama and expect championship from the coaches.. Good times

Not so fast my friend ! Last year first game we thought it was a legit D. Lets see if they gel even more as we go forward.
Fair. South Florida will be a really good test. Like mentioned earlier they put a lot of pressure on defenses to communicate and stay disciplined. They gashed us last year before we made the score look really lopsided. First half was a dogfight

Outside of the busted coverage late in the TE I completely agree.
Yeah those types of plays are tough. It could be all on Toure. Could be something else. He did a good job on coverages on some other plays (running stride for stride with Love for example) which was huge given his injury concerns

I mentioned it that game , after UF being their live , I saw guys running open that Mertz missed . Then I went full ham after VT. I had posters calling me an idiot and clueless .

Caught myself getting hype a few times rewatching this game and then going

“Yeah dude remember that’s what they’re suppose to do”

Popo made two great open-field tackles on Love. Miss those, and Love is still running.
Lucas made a great play running down the TE on Toure's blown coverage. Toure appears to have thought it was zone coverage versus man.
Toure's hit on Carr could have been a game-ender for Carr.
Overall, I liked the speed at which they played and would have liked to see 22 in on those downs when it was clear they were going to pass but Popo did well.

Blay's big play was a complete bust on the ND OL.
Moten was the most consistent DT, IMO.
We really need to get the final four DL on the field more often on clear passing downs. Lightfoot, Blount, Mesidor, and Bain. That OL had no answer for the speed and power.
Toure and Jakobe Thomas both picked up Love the RB out of the backfield on that play.

How’d we do opening night three or four years ago?

Those games are equally as relevant as last years.

Honestly I can’t even remember how long

Popo and Toure side by side looks like they’ve been together for years

I thought Popo looked pretty good, but I was a fan last year. Thought he flashed.

Toure is not a coverage player imo…I do think he is a difference maker as a thumper in the box against running teams and was good in that aspect. But that blown coverage (and that looked like it was all on him) wasn't the only time he looked lost in coverage vs. ND. If he's on the field in obvious pass situations he needs to be a blitzer or get Pruitt on the field.
