Barry Jackson's Wednesday Buzz- new S&C at UM

### We hear the UM football team’s new strength staff is pushing players very hard in the weight room and on conditioning drills, and at least two players couldn’t finish one workout. UM football staffers say the goal is to be a better fourth quarter team. UM was outscored 115-94 in the fourth last season, the only period it was outscored.

115-80 when you take FAU and BCU out of the equation.

Go get an SEC tattoo or something. You can talk up the SEC all you want and their bowl record, but I am referring to Richt's SEC schedule. He didn't beat any SEC teams with a winning conference record and Auburn was the only SEC team he beat that finished above .500 overall.

These were his wins:

USCe - 3-9 - didn't make it to a bowl game
Missouri - 5-7 - didn't make it to a bowl game
Vanderbilt - 4-8 - didn't make it to a bowl game
Kentucky - 5-7 - didn't make it to a bowl game
Auburn - 7-6 - Beat 3rd place American Athletic Conference West team Memphis in a bowl game

3 wins against high school teams: Southern, Ga. Southern, ULM

Ga Tech was 3-9 and Penn St. was 7-6

He gets his ten wins which would be a nice change for us, but he only had one team that would be considered elite in 15 years. That is why I can't get too hyped until September comes.

We'll see how he does come September. And I understand that there is a crowd that can't get over Davis was not offered the job. All of Mizzou's 7 losses were in conference. So were Auburn's. 6 of 7 of Kentucky's losses were in conference. South Carolina beat North Carolina and lost to Clemson by 5 points. It's a terrific conference.

By no means was this a very good Georgia. Their quarterback situation was awful. Lambert wasn't very good at Virginia and Bauta was awful. Chubb was probably top 5 before he got hurt. So Richt turned around and got a commitment from Tony Eason's kid.

Have you ever asked yourself: Why was Georgia's qb situation so awful? Two Words: Mark Richt.

Yes, one bad year. And he was bringing in Eason's kid who is a stud. Let's see Dave Greene, DJ Shockley, Matthew Stafford, Aaron Murray. That's a pretty good run.

One bad year....LMAO!
No NCs with that run of QBs...................or NC game appearances!

Butch didn't make it with the most talented team of all time. Miami has NEVER had a coach come in with as much success as Richt has had and UGA has never won a championship without one of college football's greatest players of all time. There isn't one coach that would have came here that was better so if you can't handle Richt you might as well find another team because it isn't changing anytime soon.

This is not about Butch. This is about a man who never wanted the Miami job. A man that turned Miami down 3 times. A man that only came to Miami after he was fired for mediocrity. That man is Mark Richt.

Basically, what this thread has shown is that Mark Richt is not Nick Saban or Urban Meyer.

Here are the coaches to play for a national title during Richt's career at Georgia:

Larry Coker, Jim Tressel, Nick Saban, Bob Stoops, Pete Carroll, Mack Brown, Urban Meyer, Les Miles, Gus Malzahn, Chip Kelly, Brian Kelly, Jimbo Fisher, Gene Chizik.

So, the active coaches are:

Nick Saban x 4
Bob Stoops x 3
Urban Meyer x 3
Les Miles x 2
Brian Kelly x 1
Gus Malzahn x 1
Jimbo Fisher x 1

If you were ranking Richt as a head coach, you'd probably put him somewhere around 10th in the country. If you were expecting more, you probably had unrealistic expectations given where our program was at.

I also keep reading about how Richt didn't win the SEC enough, and how he did less with more. Georgia was 7th in the SEC in football revenue, 47% fewer resources than Alabama, 33% fewer than LSU, over 20% fewer than Florida. In fact, they were barely ahead of Kentucky! Georgia was 19th in the NCAA for public universities in revenues (barely half of what Oregon brings in).

You do with that what you will, but I can't be upset with the results he gave with the resources given. If you want to feel better about Diaz, Mississippi State was dead last in the SEC with $59.6 million in revenues. To keep his defense as competitive as he did with the resources given is quite impressive.

Oh.....the same UGA that lost to the "Al Golden Equivalent" coached Tennessee and offensively challenged UF?

Not!

Any team with a slight pulse was capable of beating UGA on any given Saturday! That is why we have Mark Richt now.

Al Golden like Tennessee? You mean the Tennessee that had 9 wins playing in the SEC, took Bama to the wire, finished ranked, and blew out a ranked opponent in their bowl game? Didn't know Golden could do that. Also, UF's offense didn't struggle until the end of the game.

ALL that aside, this years UGA would beat ANY Miami team over the last ten years.

Kendallcane said it best:

"Georgia was 5-3 in the SEC. They beat Vanderbilt, USCe, Missouri, Kentucky, and Auburn. Even Al would have been expected to win those games.

They got blown out by Florida and Alabama and played Tennessee close.

Nothing to brag about there and that's why he was fired."

_____________

Once again, UGA was soft and poorly coached in 2015!

When Golden was here you guys predicted losses to teams like Florida Atlantic. Now he'd beat 5 SEC teams. (Even though he got beat by one of those teams in last year's bowl) Stay whining my friends.

5 Sh*tty SEC Teams!

Stop acting like the SEC is Dominant from Top to Bottom.

The SEC is nothing more than a Top Heavy Conference...Bama, UF and LSU. The rest are Wannabees!

SEC went 9-2 in bowl games... I don't consider the rest of the conference "wannabees." If they were then you'd see them exposed come bowl time.

The most talent rich areas, with the most $ and highest paid coaches = the best teams. What's so hard to get?

I think moving forward, it's not going to be about playing for a national title, which historically has been extremely biased due to voting for only 2 teams. If we had that system last year, Urban would be without that ship like Butch. You will probably see a similar success measure for coaches with what they do with NCAAB for making it to the final four.

Nobody is hating because Richt is what we got to roll with. I am fine with that, I just ain't sitting back with blind faith in his plan like some of yall because I don't care about 10 wins every year and secondary bowl games. I want to compete for ships.

FWIW I heard WQAM say that NFL scouts claim Georgia's athletes were some of the worst conditioned in the country. Putting them slightly above *** and his UFAT program.

Big-O. Scouts told him Miami was the worst conditioned team. Georgia the second worst.

Oh, well that's better. At least we might be trending up. Unless, Al doesn't get another team -- then do we inherit the last spot again?

Yea I guess we're still gonna be the weakest team in the nation. Oh well.

Yet he has the 5th highest winning % among active coaches. Who were we getting from the top 4 of that list?

His winning % doesn't mean sh*t. MR has not done anything in over 10 years! Frank Beamer did more than MR.

The quality of a conference is measured at the top, its measured by the quality from top to bottom. The SEC is consistently the best conference because of the depth of that conference. Many years it's not even close.

So dude, who the **** do you want to be our HC?!?! Get it through your skull, Butch ain't comin'. Nobody else hired him so Butch ain't comin' anywhere. We didn't hire Herman, boo fu.ckin hoo. Did you want us to sell the med school to the Chinese so we could afford Saban? Ur talking a lot of **** and we haven't even had a spring practice yet. We've never hired championship winning coaches, they become NC winners here. If you don't think Richt can't assemble more talented teams here than in GA, you're fu.ckin crazy and you probably should root for another squad. If he blows here, it'll likely be because he put forth no real effort and I just don't see that happening. If it does, I'll be donating towards new banners.

If Richt fails here then it would prove what people have been saying true that we had a special run but college football has changed. That would be four coaches in a row. However, I don't think we have to worry about that
