Barry jackson latest notes

Love this from Banda:

"He said on Hurricane Hotline that Gurvan Hall, Amari Carter, Derrick Smith and Robert Knowles “are big and physical guys. But I need their brains to be big and their mental side to match what they look like. What I want to be when we walk out there in Orlando [against UF] is have mental giants, as big as they are, I want their brains to be as dominant and big and physical. This isn’t checkers; it’s chess.”
Well we will see how good of a teacher he really is. They do have the physical attributes lets see him develop them. chess not checkers coach :)

That’s cause they don’t realize that the QBs on the roster have not had ANY coaching since high school.

They beleieve JW and NP didn’t take the job because they lack talent, not realizing the talent wasn’t the problem.
I do agree thats a point most here fail to remember ..... little Jon added no value as a QB coach HE WAS A NOVICE, they probably got better coaching in high school while other QB's in the ACC where being led by a real coach.. Let's judge them going forward.

I respect a lot that you post on this board, but I have to disagree with you on this. Kid would have plenty of options. This board has blown his “off field issues” out of proportion.

True - Notre Dame loves pervs. Two deep.

No D?

Redwine was the most improved player on our team last year... and safety play has not been an issue.
We can all have an opinion. Myself #1 I disagree. #2 told yall plenty of times he doesnt run the room by himself. Even if he did I'm not impressed. Before you or someone else goes quoting stats, I know how impressive the unit was. This is the year i wanna see those results. That I'll be impressed by. When we probably dont get even close to the front 7 play we've seen the last few years. I would love to be wrong and see the line be as disruptive. Our ends are absurd but I just dont see any game changers right this second at tackle. Nesta will be. Just not sure hes ready come ufag. That's the other coach I'll be impressed by if he turns that unit into what were used to at this point. Stroud. Besides as I've told yall and none of yall wanna hear rumph gives ALOT OF HELP in that safety room. Help is a nice way to put it.

I don’t understand how fans think Tate is the savior .... he ran from comp @ O state and he’s struggling here. O state didn’t seemed bothered at all that he left. The media and fans seem to purposely **** on our QBs that were on the rooster from last yr.

This "he ran from competition" is a played out argument. He's in a competition right now so answer how he ran from it.

Also, the reason why Ohio State didn't seemed bothered that Tate left is 1. Day prefers a pocket passer over a dual threat and 2. Justin Fields will likely be the third best QB in college next year, I think everyone can admit Tate is good but he's not top 3. Same situation here. If Tate/Jarren beat out Kosi are we going to be too concerned about losing him? No.

What have you been watching??? Banda has done a great job developing players here. Every safety he has had at Miami either is or will be playing in the NFL

Jamal Carter (currently playing for the Broncos )
Rayshawn Jenkins (currently playing for the Chargers)
Jaquan Johnson (developed him into a All American will be drafted)
Sheldrick Redwine (converted CB who will get drafted)

He also has been coaching with Manny for years. What makes you think he can’t call plays?

It’s like these guys decide to not like a coach and run with it.

You want to be disappointed. So you’re ignoring three years of good safety play and you’ve waited until the fourth year with a lot of turnover to judge the guy. Lol

I can’t wait for the overreactions when the defense takes a small step back this year. There’s no way they’re hitting the numbers they did last year and y’all can’t wait to blow up the boards about firing Baker and Banda when it happens

What makes me think he cant call plays is I know the man. Been there for years and see what has gone on first hand. I also dont find it too impressive that each of the safety's hes had that you mentioned play in the NFL. #1 that's not the standard we have set here. #2 each and every one of them except possibly jaquan never lived up to their potential here. None of them except jaquan were difference makers in college at all. Which their draft spots have shown. For me and anyone I know the fact that they play in the NFL period is a testament to the work they put in as men rather than what they did in college. That's not a knock on them, its just what it is.

Interesting, looks like Tate martell is starting to come along in terms of throwing the ball. Looks like Williams has been steady and not surprising Perry has looked good at times too. Long race from being over but I feel good about this position honestly

These comments make me think these players have never stepped onto a football field before. How behind are we going to be when we are spending all our time learning how to tie shoes?

It’s new language and enos is a real stickler for technique, martell was coached by Meyer one of the greatest coaches of all time for 2 years(as opposed to Williams and Perry being coached by the richts), Is he doing it perfect? No.

#1 you're trying a lil too hard with the generalization. I think banda is doing the best HE can do. Just dont think its impressive. That doesnt mean I'd ever want the man fired. Him and Mike together and patke to an extent make it work back there. Alot of unity between the 3. #2 anyone who doesnt understand there is a very good chance this defense takes a pretty big step back this year simply isnt realistic. With the turnover we've had at safety & the dline in particular (let alone quality depth at lb) for this unit to only take a small step back I'd better see our coaches and players up for national awards. #3 I've said this from day 1 while yall praise everything because you see him on Twitter and doing his best in recruiting that he needs alot of work on the football side of things. His own players will tell you that AND who they talk to when they need advice and are having problems back there. Just is what it is. All that said again I don't want see him anywhere else. Just dontbwanna see him anywhere near calling plays on the d. Now have a great day sir.

Who do you feel made a bigger jump than Redwine last year? And why dont you give Banda credit for him getting significantly better?
I'll go g in a landslide and several other players. But main thing is I just dont think red had some huge year. Still see far too many flaws in his game. I do agree he got significantly better though. But i dont give banda ALL of the credit for it.

I agree that Banda is no where near ready to call plays. He jumped on the opportunity given to him through another one of Richt’s bad decisions. Most of us would.

It is also definitely true that the safety’s learn a lot from Rumph. That being said, the players respect Banda A LOT as a leader and teacher and he’s grown as a coach.

I’m Fine with him as a safety coach but calling plays I agree that’s surely pushing it imo

G didn’t play the year before so theres no gauge to state he made a big jump. And by all accounts he was an absolute monster on the scout team. So much so that they could barely run their offense with him on the field.

I meant, what player improved his play on the field most

The people so attached to the Tathan "ran from competition" narrative would be the first to justify Jarren or N'Kushi leaving by claiming it wasn't an actual fair competition or a competition at all here too.

As you and others have clearly explained, that job in Columbus was handed to Fields by Day. There was going to be no legitimate competition as we are having here and one that Tathan ran TO.

We all just need to "trust the process" by Enos and Manny here and accept their choice. I've been a fairly big detractor of N'Kushi over the last year but if he is named starter then I'll be freakin excited that the kid is obviously balling out (not just on Snapchat) and has matured. Same thing with Tathan and Jarren being named starter as it'll show that our optimism based on their apparent potential was justified.

Love this fan base we haven't won anything for 18 years and we arguing over who's the favorite starter.I don't give a flying .uck anymore who the starters are I want some championships .just win period i d take laurel and hardy, the three stooges,Barney fifth e as the starter if they win.

REDWINE

but it doesnt fit the narrative...because they had him dead to rights since he was a late offer...and they kep moving the goalpost on the kid.

They **** near got a hernia when he broke out the 4.4, didnt know what to grab for after that

I remember an insider here saying that Redwine was so bad that the CB and Safety coached flipped a coin and the loser had to take him....
