We still have glaring issues at CB & LB.
Hopefully we can get Meiko Dotson to help sure up the CB spot otherwise, we better hope Christian Williams or Te'Cory Couch step up & take over the CB2 spot, because if Ivey remains the starter our secondary will struggle. He's a huge liability in coverage.
The one thing I don't like about our Defensive coaching staff is they play favorites & are too political with playing time. We need to have the best 11 on the field, not their favorite guys or the best *** kissers in practice, the absolute best 11. Don't keep playing dudes who routinely get beat, miss assignments & play like shìt just because they remind you of you or you like them a lot. If another CB is better than Ivey, play them & sit his *** on the bench.
At LB we'll be more athletic but green, I expect Brooks & Huff to do well, but Huff was a late enrollee & has never gone through a full Spring/Summer/Fall camp, he may take some time to get acclimated.
I'm super super high on Tirek Austin-Cave, I'm glad he's an EE & will get very good 2nd team reps, he'll definitely be in the rotation a lot.
At Safety, Hall & Bolden are the guys, if it were up to me I'd move Amari Carter to Striker/LB but as of now he's still a S. Keontra Smith is a sleeper for the 3rd rotational Nickel Safety, he reminds me of Jaquan without the ball skills, I think he'll play a lot this year. Jalen Harrell I think we be good too, sucks he wasn't an EE though. Balom & Washington will be ST's/redshirt guys.
The DL is the strength of the team with landing Roche, pairing him with Roussea we have the best Defensive Line in the ACC outside of Clemson & one of the top 5 in the nation. Crazy depth at DE & DT, even if one of them transfers we good.
Overall I think the Defense will be faster & more athletic than in the past few seasons, we'll have a good mix of young guys & a couple upperclassmen. The key will be for Diaz & Baker to stop being so over complicated & just let the athletes do what they do best, don't bog them down with overly exotic unnecessary schemes, just attack the pocket & let them boys hunt, have the CB's keep everything in front of them & let Hall roam manning the deep centerfield.
The gameplan we ran with vs FSU should be style we play for every game, keep it simple & attack.
