Assuming the offense is fixed.. what about the D?

No one in the right mind can have much to complain about with our D . For a down year in the secondary we were still a top 15 D . We will tweek this or that but why fix was hasn't been broken in years.

Our D had 1 problem - our O was horrible. At some point your D can only do so much without backup .

The is the type of stuff you ask when you need to create some drama . It doesn't actually need to be asked.
Yes you can, it was flawed in critical moments when the team needed the defense the most while being handed a lead with an anemic offense late in the game yet allowing opposing offenses to do whatever they wanted in the 4th quarter

The key will be for Diaz & Baker to stop being so over complicated & just let the athletes do what they do best, don't bog them down with overly exotic unnecessary schemes, just attack the pocket & let them boys hunt, have the CB's keep everything in front of them & let Hall roam manning the deep centerfield. The gameplan we ran with vs FSU. Keep it simple & attack.
This is more of what I was alluding too. Good stuff.

I think a better offense will create a better defense. It'll go hand in hand.

Wasn't our defense Top 15 is more categories in 2019?

Offense and defense don't play in a vacuum. They play off each other and if your offense sucks it does impact your defensive performance (sudden changes due to t.o., playing short field, coming in after consecutive 3 and outs, etc.). You have to take that under consideration too.

I hear you, but using the VT game as an example, your D shouldn't be giving up 28 pts. off of turnovers.

Of course you don't want your O throwing 4 INTs, but if we would've held VT to at least 2 FGs off those 4 INTs, we win the game.

Like how do you let the TE score 3 TDs, and nooooooooobody was covering em'...that shouldn't happen.

There are some big holes that need to be plugged by the D.

They need to be filled up.

Thankfully, I think we have guys capable of doing just that.
Yes, we have plenty of young, fresh ends on defense. But the tight ends are all on offense. Hopefully they will be frequently used in Lashlee's offense.

The scheme is trash unfortunately it’s nothing we can do about it until Diaz gets fired.

Trash? D'Onofrio's scheme was trash. Manny's scheme is significantly better and that's just facts.

Yes, they can get too cute sometimes. Yes, I scratch my head when I see a DE covering a back or the flats instead of rushing. Yes, they seem to play favorites (although I'm not at practice or in meetings to fully assess why certain player gets more reps over other more talented players). But, with that said, calling this scheme trash is pure hyperbole.

the scheme won't change an iota...so those thinking it will better stock up on heart meds.

the good news - from a pure athlete standpoint IMO, we get better. also your D can only make up for a limited amount of offensive mistakes any given game...IF the offense can be what it should be, it changes everything on the D whether you believe it or not....and that in itself would be an improvement. we should be opposite of what we have been....praying the D will somehow miraculously save us vs. the O just scoring.

Defense was top 15 and let’s be real scoring more points will help the unit out.

You guys saying we play no one......we still play....no one. Lol

Last year I posted the problems the defense had at the start of the games.
This year wasn't much better.
They did play well for most part of our games this year, but we could have won the uF, UNC, VT and GT games if we made a late stop.
Yes, I know about the O and ST's garbage play but somewhere along the line give me a stop to win a game vs a team other than Central Michigan.

Our defense is good. Was very good at times.
Not great.

I'm looking forward to better results this year.

I’m too lazy to look up the stats, but I have to believe our 3rd down D took a hit with the loss of Bolden. I like the Hall/Bolden combo. Interested to see how Gil does with more live reps at striker. I haven’t completely given up on Ivey. I know he’s not very popular, but I still think the kid can be a player. McCloud’s move to the mike, if successful could make for an improved D across the board. Our offenses ability to put together a 7 to 10 play drive more the once a game will be key also. My $0.02.

Go Canes!

I’m interested in how they’ll use Phillips. I think he ends up in more of a stand up rusher role since Roche transfer in. Can’t wait to see how Bubba does once fully recovered. The defense is flawed af but still a lot of potential there if a few guys step up. Baker is gonna Baker but hopefully he evolves. Manny wasn’t ready for his role at this level. Neither was Baker imo.

Are you serious? How well did our D hold off the juggernauts that are GT, Duke, FIU and La. Tech?

we scored 0 points against La Tech. We could have held them to a field goal and still lost. How do you blame the defense for that?

Still a glaring coaching deficiency on defensive side of the ball. No changes?

King & Co aren't much good to us on the bench. (see 3rd down D)

Frasier Crane - I'm listening.
We had a top 10 defense for the last 4 seasons. What the **** are you talking about?
