The Florida State game always comes down to which team can run the ball better. FSU is not very good in the aspect of the offense. For example, before today's game Louisville was giving up an average of 192 yards per game, and 4.4 per carry. Today, FSU rushed for 76 yards on 2.5 per carry. Before today's game, FSU ranked 120 in the nation rushing for an average of 103 yards per game and 2.83 per carry. In contrast, before our last game, we rank 37th in rushing at 209.5 yards per game and 4.84 yards per carry. So I think we have a better shot running on them than they do running on us. So Perry doesn't have to play lights out for us to win.
I also don't put any concern on the UNC quarterback ran all over us schtick. First, FSU won't risk Francois after losing him last year by doing that. Second, basing your offense entirely on trick QB plays like UNC did is high school stuff that leads to losing records and coaches getting fired. It is not a winning recipe. Third, even during the greatest defenses we ever had, that was the common beef even when we were winning by 25-30 points each game. A QB runs because nothing else is working. If that is your biggest beef as a fan then you got issues.
Watching FSU today, they look like a very average team. Louisville gave the game away when, inexplicably, the QB misread the play call from the sideline and threw the ball in FSU red zone with 1:24 to play when FSU had only 2 timeouts and if Louisville ran it three times, kicked a field goal to go up by 6, FSU would have got the ball back with like 30 seconds left at its own 25. But the QB stared down the out route, and the QB threw it right to the FSU player for the pick. Stupid. Then when Louisville got the ball back, the QB was so inaccurate on 4 straight throws that it made one wonder whose team he was on.
I am extremely confident for this game because of all of the above and mostly because Hard Rock is a real home field advantage for us nowadays. I don't think FSU will be ready for the new atmosphere. Plus Willie Taggart is a terrible coach and Richt is not. So we win big.
