Yeah just has to play powder puffs like did at WSU

Trumpycane initially liked Mateer and then checked out his game logs

Was bad against any team with a pulse at WSU

9-19 1 TD 1 INT against TT
17-34 1 TD 1 INT against Washington
17-35 0 TD, 1 INT against Fresno

18 of his 29 passing touchdowns came against Portland State, Hawaii, Utah State, New Mexico, San Diego State

And another 4 against San Jose State

Not a step back but not a huge step forward.

First round is being kind D, very kind. Maybe if he stays another year but what he’s put out so far, is not first round quarterback material.

Not a step back because if he took one more step back, he'd fall right off that perch that the media put him on - he literally has nowhere else to go but forward. I'm not gonna say Arch sucks, but he sure does a stellar job of underwhelming.....which is the verbal equivalent of "not a step back but not a huge step forward".

It is a step back. You had Arch as one of the top 5 players entering the season (he could be your #1 since you said “in no particular order”). Top 5 players in FBS are generational players.

Do you have Arch in your top 5 now?

Some dummy will spend a 1st rounder on him. D isn't wrong about that. JJ McCarthy, Anthony Richardson, Tim Heblow are all somewhat recent examples.

D is wrong about not bending the knee to say something like "Arch isn't that good." Instead he's gonna die on that hill.... Mendoza Hill as it's become affectionately known as round these parts.

Generational player means one every generation. Arch is not that and he’s never been that.

Now, I did think he was going to make a leap this year as an elite college quarterback. So far, that hasn’t happened. He’s been solid but not spectacular. The last two #1 picks (Mendoza and Ward) were playing at a higher level at this point in the season.

Still a lot of football left. He needs to become more consistent drive to drive.
 
Arch clearly lacks the natural instincts at the position needed. He looks like he has everything youd need in an elite QB but it isn't there. He is never going to be a first rounder, and if he is, he will never be a top 20 qb in the nfl. He just doesn't have the feel at the position that is needed. He is JJ Mccarthy at best. A game manager.

As an overall player? No, he is not playing at that level right now.

As far as QB prospects, he's still pretty high up. Kamario Taylor has looked the best but he's not draft eligible. Drew Mestemaker has been most impressive of the draft-eligible guys but he should stay another year. Trinidad Chambliss and Darian Mensah are the best college players but have some questions to answer in terms of pro projections. I'd still have Manning over Dante Moore, Julian Sayin and Sam Leavitt. Probably over CJ Carr too based on the traits.

so, let me see if I'm following you.

I shared a post where you had Arch listed as one of the top 5 players in college football going into the season and Arch could have been #1 on that list because you said your list was in no particular order.

Now, you would not include Arch on the list of top 5 players in the sport......but it's not a step backwards?

So a player can go from top 5 in the sport to no longer top 5 in the sport and it's not a step backwards?

Those are season projections. I thought he'd make a huge leap based on how he finished last year. He's been better but has not taken the leap expected.
 
The Red River shootout is going to be an ugly game this year.

The QBs are both hard to watch at times.

Arch is the most overrated QB in a long while. I’ll be fascinated by what GM is sold that bag of goods??
