April 30, 2022

The 2022 stuff is tricky to me. That was a rush job.

If you’re looking at the guys he built a relationship with over years, two of the Top 10 picks in this draft (McMillan and Banks) were committed to Mario at Oregon when he left to Miami.
He was also dealing with his mom’s health at the time IIRC. I give some leeway for everything that was going on.

If the 2023 class was stronger I think it would be easier to brush off the 2022 class as an anomaly but that class is on life support at the moment as well

Nah. He lost to Utah twice because he was heading to Miami since September of that year.... so all excuses go out the window on it being a short window...

Like I said if 2023 was really good you could be like whelp the guy just sucks at rush jobs and it would be fine

Saying I give him some leeway for his mom is not an excuse. We’ve seen too many examples of coaches doing really well under a “rush job” to make excuses

But 2023 is glaring right now

Sure Miami had some guys drafted, but we are miles away from the teams like Bama, UGA, OSU, Mich, etc.

And that isn’t changing with the last couple classes Mario brought in either.
I’m not even worried about UGA, Bama, OSU etc

We couldn’t beat GT and Syracuse with this team

Do we wanna add up the guys they had drafted? McCord went where?

Sure some people can talk about the progress here but only because 2022 was about as low as the program has been in 30-40 years

We’ve progressed but didn’t do better than 2017s Richt squad results wise. How many NFLers did that team have?

Edit: I looked. We had 9 guys drafted from that team. Similar to this one where 7 were in the 5-7 rounds. Njoku went in the first and Elder in the 4th

That tracks with an appearance in the ACCCG and a loss to a much better Clemson team

So manny’s last team had 1 player drafted in the 7th. And we didn’t go 2-10. Fspoo had 2 players drafted and went 2-10.

Our worst > their worst

Just off the top of my head SU draft picks i saw TE Orande Gadsen II, QB Kyle McCord, RB Lequint Allen, DE Fadil Diggs, I'm pretty sure a receiver but i can't remember his name, plus they'll have some UDFAs signed as well

That Syracuse team was very talented especially the offense. I said in a previous thread back when we played them that they have several NFL players on their roster and i was right.

As a Chicago boy i feel the need to defend the North from the idea that we aren't talented teams. I'm a Cane 4 Life but We ball hard up here too

Some Mario signees at Oregon that got drafted recently:

Kingsley Suamataia

Jackson Powers-Johnson

T.J. Bass

Terrence Ferguson
Jeffrey Baasa
Donte Thornton
Troy Franklin
Noah Sewell
Brandon Dorlus

No doubt Syracuse was no slouch of a team. That GT loss to a one armed QB is the one that’s really ******* painful

Just saying overall we are no further than we were in 2017 and in 2018 we took a turn for the worse

Hopefully that doesn’t happen again

I think we are recruiting better players under Mario I’ll say that much

And the OL has been fixed that helps a ton

That combo should raise our floor as a program

But the shine is off of the 2023 class and now we gotta hope the 2024 class takes a miraculous jump when there’s no evidence of it happening before

Mauigoa/Bain/Fletcher in 2023 played from Day 1 and we’ve not seen a single guy emerge from “development” yet

I agree I was there in Atlanta for that GT loss, it hurt bad. I just sat there and watched as there fans partied all over the field

I only remember seeing that huge DT Biggers get drafted but again they're a really good football team too. Brent Key has something special, He's getting really talented players & top OL recruits

Remember how they took UGA through like 7-8 Overtimes? Ask Carson Beck about Haynes King, that kid is a f'n baller.
