Sure, but for Mario’s third year, I’m happy with it.

My only complaint is the WRs not getting drafted. I think that’s the more important question to examine. What happened here that none of the WRs from the #1 offense didn’t get drafted? Did they really think it was all Cam? Or perhaps everyone but the WRs, since the OL / TE / RB were drafted? We discussed X’s 40 time ad nauseam prior to the draft, but clearly it was more than that.
They thought it was all Cam combined with the fact they don't think highly of ACC defenses

True story now if we can only get them to all come together as one unit. We definitely have improved our talent level. No question about that.
100%. The talent level is much higher than it's been in quite some time. I think the two big questions are:

1) Why? Is it the HC? The investments by the school and boosters? Some combination of the two?
2) Why were we in dogfights with so many teams that were far inferior to us talent-wise this year? Why was our only complete performance in week 1?

Mauigoa/Bain/Fletcher in 2023 played from Day 1 and we’ve not seen a single guy emerge from “development” yet
I usually agree with you but I can’t get behind this. If you don’t think Mauigoa and Fletcher improved significantly from freshman to sophomore year. I’d have to question if you were watching games. Mauigoa specifically went from “good for a freshman” to one of the better tackles in college. Fletcher went from just putting his head down and running into the pile to being patient and allowing the hole to develop and his numbers reflect that. Bain is curious because of the injury. I’ve never seen a more ready to play freshman defensive lineman. I can’t believe a guy who was technically as skilled as he was from the jump just forgot how to play when he got back from injury.

1. Yes. To both

2. Why did our defense always suck under Al Golden despite apparently having a ton of NFL talent?

Those will count to Diaz’s total.

The biggest takeaway so far is that Shannon and Golden did better than expected in talent acquisition, and Richt and Diaz were awful.
Where are you thinking Mario falls? As far as acquiring talent. Round 5-7 guys is not where I was expecting to see us flourish. Diaz had 2 first round picks in 3 years while Mario has had 1 player he acquired drafted before round 5. 1 player in 3 years. Just 1.

You missed the point he was making. He is saying those guys we've seen started from Day 1. We haven't seen others develop into roles on the field.

Fletcher improved but Mauigoa didn't take a big leap. He wasn't even 1st team All ACC. It's not unreasonable to expect the #1 tackle prospect in the country to be knocking on the door of AA status by year 2.

He was a good player but he needs to take one more big step next year. I'm optimistic he will.

I stopped paying attention to All Conference teams when Gerald Willis was a first team All American but only second team all ACC.

You’re right. I misread the post. My bad @JHallCanes
Ah **** I totally missed this to begin with

No worries I think your takes are usually in line with what I’m thinking. I was venting a bit yesterday but yeah just was pointing out we are really hoping for these 2024 guys to take leaps out of nowhere when it hasn’t been happening here yet

I think it’s possible of course but guys like Mauigoa/Bain/Fletch we knew they could produce (to varying degrees) right away

I will say especially on offense the 2024 group was log jammed a bit just given our veterans Jojo for example we know he can play

This year will be year of three for that class and it’s put up or shut up time for a lot of those guys.

Agreed. We’ve gotten to the point where 2023 is on life support at best so 2024 gotta deliver

Mario has only had 3 seasons and 4 signing classes so its tough to make this statement yet but I'm going to anyway - the 2022 class (transition class) was the only one so far with draft eligible players. Next year will have more to tell. From the 2022 class, there's probably 2 (Cooper and Horton), maybe 3 (Moten) draft picks. 1 which will get drafted from a different school.

2023 likely has 1 pick that leaves early (Mauigoa), maybe 2 (Fletcher). A few more in the future that don't leave early (Bain, Damari, etc.) but few beyond those 4. Of all of the guys I just mentioned from 22-23 class, I'm not sure there's even an argument to be made for anyone else in those classes even being on the radar (McCoy or Samson likely next strictly based off of potential and knowing what Mirabal/Mario do with OL)

The draft picks in 2025:
Ward - 1 year portal rental
Arroyo - Manny recruit
Rivers - Manny recruit
Kiko - 2 year portal rental - not good at all in year 2
Baron - 1 year portal rental - not good at all after first 3 games
Borregales - Manny recruit
Martinez - 1 year portal rental

I'm just being honest, I'm not seeing enough in the HS recruiting/evaluation. It appears to have improved in the 2024 class... but I'm very far from crowning him for going from 1 pick from the regime prior to him to 7 after year 3 when 3 of the 7 were recruited by the last guy. Portal is still part of the game and very important but HS is still the life blood and its been extremely mediocre. Almost **** poor, really, considering the class rankings.
