Anthony Jones?

Jones didn't play last year because of a problem with his credits.

If he had played, he'd be much more highly rated. He's one of the best athletes in South Florida.

Thanks for sharing the inside scoop...

For the people saying oh were stealing a kid from FIU.

WRONG. No no no no. Jones is legit, flew under the radar going into the year due to not playing last year as D$ said.

I remember an interview earlier this year where Jones was mentioned by coach Smith as being a player that is going to turn heads this year being Dalvins cousin.

If you actually watch ball down here, this kid has been making plays all year long. And is a big reason to Central run again in the playoffs this year.

Not only that he comes from the Dalvin Cook athletic bloodline being his cousin. If you don't know by now. DeAndre Burnett basketball player at Miami, Dalvin Cook runningback at FSU. James Cook next up and coming high school RB or possible safety coming into high school next year.

Anthony Jones is a legitimate steal. Not a Golden special.

And yes, he will probably be a WR. I would take his commit in a heartbeat.

Everyone calls her Ms. Betty.
That would be Betty Cook, who raised Dalvin Cook and currently has her son Anthony Jones (who is Cook's cousin) and Da'Vante Phillips living under her roof.
Phillips lost his mother in a hit-and-run his sophomore year, and his father was imprisoned when he was young (his father is now out).
"Ms. Betty, she makes sure Da'Vante is doing what he's supposed to do," said Miami Central coach Roland Smith, a long-time high school coach. "Da'Vante, man, for this kid to endure what he did losing his mom, what he's gone through, he's handled it pretty well. Most kids would break down, wouldn't be able to handle it. And he's done a tremendous job handling the situation to the fullest.
"Thank god for Ms. Betty who looked out for the kid when the kid needed some assistance. Ms. Betty does a tremendous job with kids, period."
For her part, Ms. Betty says "I've always had a love for Da'Vante. Him and Dalvin had been friends since he came into high school.
"He's a strong kid. He knows if he needs me I'm there. We developed a bond, so he knows that I'm there for him."
Ms. Betty says college coaches are coming through for home visits now "almost every day."
Miami took a visit to the house last week - Al Golden, Tim Harris and Brennan Carroll were there.
"They were just talking about the program," she said.
Ms. Betty says Jones (who is a soft FIU commitment) landed his official Cane offer yesterday; Phillips already had an offer.
She says of Jones and Phillips that "they are trying to stay together" in college.
"The two are really close," she said.
Phillips is picking between Miami and Florida State; Ms. Betty says that Jones "isn't interested in going to Florida State."
So does that mean the Canes have a good shot to get the two early graduates?
Asked if, considering Cook is at FSU, it would surprise her if Phillips winds up at Miami, Ms. Betty said, "No it wouldn't. Maybe they'll go to Miami, but it's going to be what they want to do."
She adds "They have to decide pretty soon, have about two more weeks. I tell them all that I don't have to go to school, wherever fits for you, let me know and if that's where you want to be at then you're welcome to be there and I'll be there to support you."
Jones plans to visit UM before deciding, but may not make it to Coral Gables this weekend.
"Anthony has the state game this weekend, so it's hard for him to go on a visit from up in Orlando," Ms. Betty said.
* Smith says of Phillips that "He's a physical wide receiver, very strong hands, man. Anytime the ball is in the air he feels like it's his ball. He attacks the ball real well, high points it real well, does a good job concentrating on the ball. Even if it's tight coverage he comes down with it. He runs excellent routes and is fast for a kid of his size. And he'll only get faster when he gets to college

UM could also take Jones as a preferred walk on, and make him a recipient of the new scholarship for Running backs endowed by former UM running back Ken Hunt.

This way Jones gets to come to UM and it does affect UM's limited number of spots.

I doubt he'll do that when quite a few schools in lesser conferences have offered schollies... He may feel he is an after thought when other schools have elaborated what type of role he'll have and how he can be the feature player in their offense... Plus, he's a wideout on the next level...

False. Any player on scholarship who plays in a game for the football team automatically counts as a football scholarship. Been that way for several years now. Otherwise Bama, LSU et al would have a couple of dozen "academic" scholarsip players on their teams.

If they are trying to take him as a RB is it possible they feel that Dex or Scarlett are not as strong on Miami as they thought. I know Williams with UF and now Louisville showing intrest might be the reason, but is there someway they feel Scarlett might not stick?

Where do people keep coming up with this crap on Scarlett? All i ever see the kid talk about is Miami.. People ask him questions about UF and FSU he answers but the kid throws up the U , he talks about Miami without being questioned.. ****.. All the negativity just never stops.. im no golden fan but enough already..

HOW IS THIS NOT POSITIVE !

That transference rule only applies to revenue sport scholarships ( ei baseball, track, basketball) will transfer to the highest revenue generating sport once the player enters a game. Academic and general scholarships don't count, hence why a walk can play in a game and not be on football scholarship such as Fentress who ended up starting for UM this year yet he is not on scholarship.

RB DeAndre Johnson is a Senior walk on at UM now, prior to this he was on scholarship at Iowa were he played in few games. Johnson played in a few games this year and last year but is not part of the 85 roster scholarship count.

Like your bullcrap thread about Nike dropping Miami. Especially after they spent money to develop the new UM uniforms this year. Your douchiness is ratcheted up to new levels apparently.
