He was a nice guy, and he did a good job leading us through the "cloud", but he just isn't the type that's going to win anything big here. You don't sacrifice a program's future because of a couple of recruits...that's just stupid and shortsighted.

Golden had a 9 win season and has steadily imrproved. Yes, there are troubling issues that need to be addressed, and we all hope it gets fixed. But EVERYONE on here talked a lot of sh*t about how "we need to give this guy his 4 years" AT LEAST, after the mess Shannon left, and after the Shapiro disaster, so he could get his players in, get his system in place, and see if he could really rebuild this program. We just had a 9 win season, first bowl game in 3 years, and we are sitting on a top 5 recruiting class, and almost EVERY other post on these boards are trashing Golden, the staff, and calling for him to leave, to be fired, insulting him, etc.... Its played out and pathetic.

Yes, this season ended on a disappointing note. But at the beginning of the year, most people here would have agreed that a 9 win season with a bowl game was probably pretty realistic and fair. If you would have told me at the beginning of the year that we woudl LOSE Duke Johnson for the season, and that Morris would be injured half the season and have a TERRIBLE year, I would have been DELIGHTED with a 9 win season.

All these people screaming about how they hope Golden leaves, and dreaming about some super star coach, are going to be singing a real different tune when this class falls apart, and we end up with Mario Cristobal as HC.

Shannon is better than Golden?

You've got to be fuucking kidding me.
It was Shannon's watch when this Shapiro debacle went into overdrive. Yeah, Shannon didn't like Shapiro but he sure didn't stop him.
Shannon alienated **** near every high school coach in South Florida. He made our team weak, lazy and entitled.

Golden has had to coach for 3 years with a ticking time bomb, courtesy of Shannon.
No surprise that Shannon, a former head coach, with multiple National Championship rings as a player and coach, is only a position coach on one of the worst teams in a BCS conference.

Golden's name comes up for darn near every plum head coaching gig in America.

Seems like the only people who don't respect his abilities and want him leading their team are the morons on Canes' blogs.

In most cases it takes time to rebuild. Occasionally, like Auburn you catch lighting in a bottle. But those are rare.

I'd rather Al stay and continue to bring in talent so that if he continues to underachieve the next guy can inherit a talented team. He leaves now and this class falls apart, which usually happens when a head coach leaves. We will be waiting another 4 or 5 years before we can even think about a BCS bowl.

well i want golden to stay to see what happens but we are according to him or someone close to him losing key pieces which i suppose in his view will make it hard to move forward in year 4 like those guys did.

The real reason people want Cristobal is the reason nobody mentions: he's the 1st and only Cuban American head coach in major college football.

The only statistic that matters.

The team has gotten better every year under Golden in the absolute worst possible scenario for a head coach.
Even Penn State's situation was better. They knew pretty quickly what their sanctions were and where the end of the tunnel was.
3 years of uncertainty. Years of every talking head on TV and in recruits' living rooms saying we would get the death penalty.

Who the **** would want to coach under those situations?

Miami recruits itself?
Whatever?
What if you are a recruit and everyone tells you Miami football won't exist after the ax falls?
You still going to your childhood team?

Were not good rt now, but we have a better record every year with golden as a coach. Wait till we regress before we put him in the league with shannon. Shannon is a proven awful coach. Golden might be bad but wait til we regress, gotta be pretty surprised if we dont improve next year.
